Elessar e Undomiel

by The Last Evenstar

A/N: I was bored during English class, so I decided to write a poem about Aragorn and Arwen. As you may have noticed, they don't have any, while nearly everyone else (Beren and Luthien, Earendil and Elwing, etc.) does. If anyone likes it, I may decide to expand.

Disclaimer: The characters and events mentioned here belong to J.R.R. Tolkien.

Gray of eye and brown of hair,

Clad in white 'neath mallorn tree.

She did see him standing there,

Sweet and bitter hers would be.

.

Seasons wand'ring glade by glade,

Midsummer then on Amroth's hill.

Fateful promises were made,

And made against her father's will.

.

The Twilight gone, no hope was left

The day he rode away to war.

A dying heart, in two 'twas cleft,

Waiting, waiting, evermore.

.

Darkness filled the Dimholt road,

Courage gone and still so far!

But through his heart a power shone,

The fading light of Evenstar.

.

But lo! their hope did come again.

The Ring defeated, Sauron fell.

In union they were King and Queen,

And henceforth little more can tell.

.

Fourscore years of love and life,

Each Midsummer bells did chime.

Until the day of suff'ring strife

When he lay down one last time.

.

"Estel! Estel!" she cried in vain,

The King would ne'er draw breath again.

In sorrow she did not complain,

But went away to Lorien.

.

The mallorn trees had long since died,

Leaves of gold had turned to gray.

On Amroth's hill she lay and cried,

And silently she passed away.

.

Legend, myth, it all shall fade,

Just as Lorien's brightness gives.

But shining ever through the shade,

This tale of patient lovers lives.
