Note: This is my interpretation of the song Luthien sings before Mandos. I
realize that Luthien would have probably actually sung to Mandos in Elvish,
but because of my lack of knowledge of the Sindarin language I have
interpreted it in the common tongue.

* The song of Luthien *
A prince of men, of noble kin
Wandered aloof, as a new tune begin
Clad in grey, laden with sorrow
Friend of all life, from hounds to sparrows
The music began, late was the hour
I released my arts, my stage made of flowers
With grace I began my dance in the glade
My audience unknown came from the shade
A powerful enchantment my dance did lay
Alone in the dark my spectator stayed
Ignorant of the doom which I had entered
Upon which two different children was centered
My mind was innocent, my heart was young
I relinquished the key with the song I sung
I lifted the trance, our eyes slowly met
Nervous at first but our fate was set
Should eternal life have been my desire
The sons of Feanor, with a burning fire
Or he who plays the music so fair
Would have gladly given me an undying heir
Great glory and gold held the princes of elves
Yet, first and foremost remained themselves
Their love was not pure, for power they hunted
My heart remained with whom they affronted
With Beren I wandered, for I found the true bliss
His touch was so kind as gently we kissed
We lingered alone in a world of our own
Our lips spilled our desires, our hopes became known
Each day we cherished, for against us was time
Through meadows we passed and mountains we climbed
Our roof was the sky, our walls were the trees
Our understanding was each other, we moved with the breeze
Together we challenged fate, conquered the greatest foe
We overcame the hatred, the unfeasible, the woe
For together we held a great power within
The unconquerable love, lay under our skin.
We went forth together to a valley of fear
That few others would dare to stray near
From the dark our hands released the great light
Alone, neither could have achieved this delight
But a last barrier arose, love cannot escape death
A wound bearing evil stole Beren's last breath
I plunged in great sorrow, I was left alone
All that once we had shared, in solitude became stone
Life lost its meaning, enveloped in grief
I long for the past, though it was brief.
To look in his eyes, to feel his touch so soft
My heart tied to his, I was sent to thee, my sprits aloft.
