My Most Terrifying Moment
My most terrifying moment was when I was on my horse Beano and with my friend Zoe; she was on her horse Aggie. We were on a ride along some back tracks on to a main road. This road is named Cornhill road. The Cornhill road was the main lorry road into Aberchirder because there is a lorry satiation in Aberchirder. There is a lot of lorries go along that road. Zoe and myself were riding on to this road home towards Aberchirder on Friday the 4th April in the Easter holidays. My horse Beano is a jet-black Irish Bred horse, he is 16hands, he is only 6 years old and he is still learning. In addition to this it was his first time on a main road. On the other hand, Aggie is a grey pony, she is 14 hands, she is 15 years old and is a docile horse. Zoe found this difficult too because Aggie was being silly and Zoe is a beginner. Zoe is 15 years old she is not that experienced on a horse and Zoe is a nervous rider.
We were on the Cornhill road about 4 miles away from home. There was a stallion across the road from us and so Aggie was playing up with Zoe. She wanted to get to the male horse across from us. Zoe and I were walking the horses in single file along the road but Beano was playing up with me. He wanted to be in front of Aggie but I wouldn't let him. There were a few cars that went passed him he was fine with them. Then he spooked at a ditch beside him and there was a big lorry coming up behind us. I said to Zoe to get beside me so Beano couldn't spook as much but the lorry was coming too fast. We didn't have time to move. But then there was a ditch with running water in it he reared and jumped out in front of the lorry I fell off him on to the grass verge. I thought that the lorry was going to kill me I was terrified.
I was scared! Beano would get hurt and I was wondering if Zoe and Aggie were ok or not. The lorry was very close of hitting Beano and myself. I could hear Zoe screaming for the lorry to stop and shouting my name. I lay on the ground shaking with my eyes closed.
The lorry stopped. He left skid marks on the ground from the lorry stopping so fast. Zoe jumped off of Aggie and ran to get Beano for me and the lorry drive got of the lorry and checked if I was ok. He said don't ride that horse on the busy roads. That could have been a really bad accident. He felt angry and I think he was relived when he saw I was ok. I had some cuts and bruises but I was fine otherwise. I got up and got hold of Beano I told him he was a good boy and said thank you to the lorry driver.
The lorry driver kept his engine off as Zoe, myself and the horses walked past it. So he could go in front of us. I lead Beano home and Zoe rood Aggie home. I was too scared to get on Beano for a few days. I got on him and took things slowly; mum put a lead rain and led me around for a while. At first I was scared but I overcame my fear with him.
A week later I saw the lorry driver he was delivering some things to my house. We had a good chat and he was asking me if I was ok and my friend Zoe and the horses and I said we are all fine. I went and got Beano In side and showed Beano to him. The lorry driver told my dad about it as we Zoe and myself told him before.
Now I go riding Beano everyday. I overcame my fear of him and riding on roads. Beano is starting to grow up and he is not as scared of lorries and ditches. It put Zoe off for a while but now she comes riding with me. This experience made us wiser on roads; although, we still enjoy riding.
