Chapter 1
Clary's P.O.V.
I heard my alarm go off for the seventh time and that's when I finally decided to get up. I looked at the time grudgingly. It was 7:50 am. Oh god. I had training with Jace at 8:00. I got out of bed unwillingly. I was so tired for some reason I had been more tired than usual these past weeks. I realized my mind was drifting and I needed to get myself ready and fast, Jace hated it when I was late because if I was even a minute late he thought I was getting attacked or something awful. When in reality it was because I couldn't find my stele. I quickly put on some yoga pants, a worn out shirt, old combat boots, and put my hair up into a messy bun. I thought about eating but the sight of food made me want to hurl and besides it would save me some time. I glanced at the clock it was 7:57. I hurriedly found my stele and made a portal to the Institute.
I landed right in front of the Institute. I got up in a rush and regretted it because soon after I also almost fell over, I was still a bit dizzy from traveling through the portal. When I finally found my balance I sprinted to the door and opened it with great force. For some reason, I get quite forceful when I'm in a hurry. I ran through the door so fast I almost didn't notice Jace standing there next to the elevator. I came to a screeching halt. "You're late," said Jace.
"Don't you worry, I'm fine, I can take care of myself. I think I've proven that multiple times, fighting in wars and going to hell and stuff like that" I snapped.
"Wow" Jace responded, "I didn't think that you could be more sassy than me."
"Shut up" I giggled and playfully punched him in the arm. "So shall we get to training then," I said.
"Yeah but you're forgetting something," he said mockingly.
"And what would that be?" I asked.
"This." Before I could even blink he grabbed my arm and pulled me into a passionate kiss. I instantly kissed him back and ran my fingers through his golden, wavy hair. He then pulled me closer and deepened our kiss. After that, I wrapped my arms around his neck. Moments later he broke away from me.
"As much as I love doing this we really should go train," he said.
"Fine" I sighed in agreement. He chuckled and pressed the elevator button.
"Love you," he said.
"Love you to" I replied in an endearing tone.
~Hours Later (in the training room)~
Jace's P.O.V.
I have been training with Clary for hours now but she still cannot focus. She was off her game, which she noticed, so she got really irritated.
"Ughhh why can't I do this? It is so simple yet I can't seem to do it" she said.
"Don't beat yourself up everyone has their off days. Here why don't we take a break."
"Ok," she yawned. She sat down on the mat floor.
"You get enough sleep?"
"Yeah went to bed around 8:30 but that obviously didn't really to help. Maybe it's because I didn't eat this morning" she said.
"Well, why didn't you eat?"
"I woke up nauseous this morning, I didn't want to puke all over you."
"Well thank you for that," I scoffed. "Maybe you have the fl-" Before I could finish my sentence I was interrupted be Izzy bursting through the doors. Of course, the Lightwoods excelled at walking in at the most inconvenient moments.
"Hey Iz," I said glumly.
"Hey," she said not seeming to notice that Clary and I were in the middle of a conversation.
"Just wanted to say hi and tell you that we're all going to lunch if you want to tag along."
"Oh ok, thanks for letting us know," Clary said before I could say anything back to Izzy.
"No problem," she said and then quickly slammed the door. I stared at Clary for a second. She broke the silence and said, "Hey Jace do we have to go?"
"No, but why?" I asked.
"I still feel kind of sick I don't really want to make a big deal out of it though, is that ok?"
"Yeah, of course, I'll stay with you though."
"No, no you should go. All I'm going to do is try and get some sleep, so you should go," she insisted.
"You sure, because I would be more than willing to-"
"Jace" she interrupted, "I will be fine. You worry way too much."
"I don't think so because you, Clarissa Fray, always find some type of trouble," I responded. She chuckled.
"Go," she said tiredly.
"Love you, I'll see you when I get back."
"I love you too," she replied. I then kissed her on the forehead and headed out.
Clary's P.O.V.
After Jace left, I stumbled my way home. When I got to the door Izzy was waiting there for me.
"Izzy" I gasped.
"I came to see you after Jace told me you weren't feeling well, I wanted to make sure you were ok."
"Thanks, I think I have the flu or something."
"Or you might be pregnant," Izzay said jokingly. I laughed falsely.
"Well you should go back to Simon, he might get lonely."
"He's a wreck without me," she replied and started to head back to the others at the restaurant. I went inside and tried to get some rest but I couldn't stop thinking about what Izzy had said, 'or you might be pregnant.' That sentence just played over and over in my mind.
I finally couldn't take it anymore, I sprang out of my bed and raced to the computer, and searched for early signs of pregnancy. I found an article stating some of the symptoms; fatigue, nausea, cramping. Then I started to think about the scary possibility, that I could actually be pregnant. I had been really tired lately and I had been nauseous this morning. Then it hit me, I had been so wrapped up in Jace that I completely forgot that I was a week late. After this thought, I started to panic. What if I am pregnant? Would I keep it? What would Jace do? Would he leave us? What would my mom and Luke say? And-. I interrupted my own thoughts. "Stop, stop you probably are not pregnant. Ok, sometimes you're a little late or maybe you got it and didn't notice. There is no reason to panic, so calm down." I said to myself out loud. I then knew what I had to do, I had to take a pregnancy test. It was the only way to be sure and the faster I got over this dumb idea, the better. I put on my clothes with great speed and grabbed my wallet. I ran to the drugstore so fast I think I may have started to break a sweat.
When I finally got to the front of the drugstore I stopped to catch my breath. I opened the door and the little bell on the door rung. I was greeted by an older woman who offered me some water. I think it was because it was pretty apparent that I had been running. I politely accepted it and gulped the water down. Now it was time to do what I came to do. I went down many aisles until I found the one that had pregnancy tests. I scanned the shelves, there had to be 20 different kinds of tests. "Why are there so many?" I muttered under my breath. After at least five minutes of searching, I finally just picked a random one off the shelf. After pacing up and down the aisle, I worked up the courage to go to the register. The kink old woman rang me up. "There's a bathroom in the back of the store," she said. I nodded and headed to the bathroom. When the bathroom was in sight, my walk turned into a sprint. I got to the door and locked it behind me. "Moment of truth," I said quietly to myself. I ripped open the box and took out the test, it was then when I realized my hands were shaking. I took a deep breath and took the test. After I finished, I set the test down on the sink counter because it had to sit for a couple minutes. Five minutes to be exact. I sat on the bathroom floor counting the seconds. When five minutes finally passed I got up from the floor, took a deep breath and picked up the test. Positive. When I saw that little pink plus sign, I wanted to go to sleep and never wake up. So many thoughts were rushing through my head, I felt so overwhelmed and scared that all I could think to do was cry. I slumped myself on the bathroom floor and wept into my knees. After several minutes of wretched sobs I was interrupted by my phone buzzing. It was Jace. I knew I had to pull myself together or Jace would notice, so I quickly cleared my throat and answered Jace's call.
"Hello," I said trying to sound as happy as I could.
"Hey, where are you? I came to check on you and you weren't there, you ok?" he said, sounding worried.
"Yeah I'm fine, I am just at the drugstore getting some medicine. I think I have the flu, I'll be home in a few minutes."
"Oh ok, I'll be here waiting for you then."
"See you soon, bye." Shortly after the call ended I knew I had to get home so I picked myself up, dried my eyes and started to walk home.
