This is Miley's POV .. duhh
And if she closed her eyes just for a little while … she could see it. The sunshine's rays of beauty shining down upon her skin. Warming her face and causing a light to flicker on within her soul. All of the nightmares and bad dreams chased away from the morning's brightness. She kept her eyes clamped shut, not wanting to open them and face reality. For reality only held one thing … disappointment. Something she was given on a daily bases.
So she would stay in fantasy land for a little while … just a little while.
The words hit her fast as they tangled with the wind and smacked her right in the face. She smiled at the contact. It was as if no one would touch her lately, thinking she was too fragile, too delicate. She wouldn't break, oh no she wouldn't. Here in fantasy land they understood that. They saw how strong and brave she was, how she could do anything she wanted if she just set her mind to it. Here when the wind chimes sang, she smiled. Here when the lights dimmed low, she wasn't afraid of the darkness to come. Here she could be anything she wanted to be without having the accusing eyes of outsiders judging her.
Sucking in a deep breath, the cold air sprang to life and struck something inside of her, a nerve that hadn't been used in a while; her imagination. If she wanted the birds to sing here … they would sing. "Strum the chorus and light the pathway, I am here!" she could shout and all would be done. All could be done for her if she wanted. Her imagination could please and delight her in many ways reality could not.
Just as she thought about reality and its cruel games, a cloud appeared and hid the sun that shone down on the growing grass and rustling leaves. Rain splashed down and mixed with her hair and smile; washing away all signs of happiness before. "No, no … leave!" she wanted to shout, but nothing came out, "This is my sanctuary! My place for happy tears and loving smiles!" Words came to mind, tears sprung her eyes yet nothing came out and nothing fell. She took no action.
It played tricks on her just like reality. Nothing was real here same as back home. There was no difference between fake and real, happiness and sadness. The only thing you could do in both places was wait and hope. Wait for an answer that seemed to never come. Wait for the sun to shine once again and the birds to come out of hiding. Hope for the safety of your love; shielding it from all broken promises.
So that's what she did. She did not open her eyes to escape the rain and darkness. She sat there on the soaking grass and waited. It took a while and used up a lot of her already thinning patience, but she waited.
…. And it was worth it.
When the rain slowed and soon disappeared and when the clouds slowly drifted away, she smiled. Even when the pain strikes you from the most surprising directions; she makes it through because she is strong. She was neither delicate nor fragile. She was strong.
Now the vision of the trees swaying and skies clearing blurred. It was time to go home and leave this fantasy land. Reality beckoned her and she returned their call. Before opening her eyes, she smiled. She would be back here again, anytime she was hurting .. she would return.
I'm really into writing one-shots lately. They're so simple and yet hold this meaning that really gets to you. At least .. that's how I feel. Maybe I'll get some inspiration from Andrei on Monday in LA! Yes!!!
