Memories
Kazune has the faintest memories of walking through a laboratory. He wasn't tall enough to see over the tables, and that is why, he supposes, he was allowed in. He remembers his dark-haired father, and the gatherings that he sometimes held in the mansion. His father was always the one at the front of the table, and Kazune was occasionally granted permission to sit next to him.
When he stood there, his father (king) was like the ruler, and he (prince) was the loyal son, watching and learning, because someday he would be the one ruling over these peoples' sons and daughters. Because he was a prince, and they were the followers.
He can also kind of recall a girl. He only saw her once or twice, but she seemed like a perfectly nice girl. She had brown hair and green eyes…or maybe she didn't. He couldn't remember well enough. She smiled and laughed and Kazune felt happy around her. But he couldn't really remember who she was.
After awhile, he never saw the girl again.
He was precocious. They said he took after his father. When he was five, he began reading his father's old notes. They weren't complex, just…strange. They often had a long line of As and Cs and Ts and Gs put together, and usually ended with an angry 'Failure. Must change formula.'
He came across an entry that again, had the line of A and C and T and G, but this one ended differently. 'Success. Try number 53 has been named Kujyou Kazune.'
Kazune didn't think much of it. He didn't understand.
On the next page, he read the words, 'My previous success has been disproved. Kazune is not the one. He might prove useful though. I will experiment further with him.'
Even later in the notebook, he noted the next success—'Success. Try number 89 has been named Hanazono Karin.' On the next page, he noticed, there were no more notes. The entries stopped there.
He walked into his father's study and handed him the notebook, and for the first time, he saw his father in a fit of rage. Kazune didn't understand what he had done wrong.
His curiosity won over the instinct that said to not read any more of Father's notebooks. This one was labeled 'Succession,' and as far as he could comprehend, it involved two girls—one was a name he recognized, Hanazono Karin. But the other one…Kujyou Kazusa…he had never heard of her before. But he was still five, and didn't understand anything beyond that.
Kazune returned the notebook quietly. His father had never known it was missing.
It was a month later (of course, he didn't know that—he just guessed on the memories) that he met Kujyou Kazusa. His father had said, "Kazune, this is your sister, Kazusa."
He remembers asking why he'd never met her before. His father told him that Kazusa had been in the hospital for a very long time. Kazune replied, "Then, is Karin my sister too?"
It was the second time he remembered his father getting angry.
When he was six, he could see over the tabletops. He saw things that he later thought were nightmares, not reality, and sparked his fear of insects.
That year, he moved to Japan and met Himeka, and you know the story from here.
I can't believe I forgot to put this here. Ohmehgeeeeh. I meant to put it here earlier.
If you don't know, DNA is made up of four components: adenine, cytosine, guanine, and thymine. They make up, like, everything. And when you list something's DNA, you use the first letter of each component. Yeah.
Disclaimed.
