[ a / n: Here's yet another RE high school au. This is a prologue of sorts; due to the sheer amount of RE characters, it'll be hard to introduce the majority of characters in an interesting way - so deal with me for this terrible prologue? :D ]
With the cue of an ever familiar bell, chit-chat and rushed footsteps filled the once empty hallways of Raccoon High. Lockers were slammed shut for the final time that week, and backpacks were stuffed with textbooks that probably wouldn't be glanced at during the weekend. For most students, there was a bus or train to catch, maybe a team practice to attend - later, probably plans for the night.
However, this was not the case for Jill Valentine.
With a black messenger bag slung over her shoulder, the brunette tapped her foot impatiently as she leaned against Chris Redfield's locker. Blue eyes glanced at the digital clock a few feet away every now and then, watching the red numbers flick from one minute to the next. She was impatient by now - their arranged meeting time had been five minutes ago.
The two had plans for after school, involving more than a few of their other friends. Honestly, there wasn't much planned - just really hanging out at the Redfields' place, maybe going somewhere later if they decided to do so. It was the end of the first week of the school year, and their group of friends really felt like they needed to do something. Summer had ended, and so did the chance to stay up late and hang out every other night.
Jill sighed impatiently as the clock read 2:37 - he was seven minutes late so far. It wasn't really a surprise, though. Chris was always late, always promising he'd be earlier - and Jill always believed him, which was half the problem. As a last resort, she reached into her jeans pocket, grabbing her phone and pressing the unlock button in one swift motion. Fingers flying over the touch screen, she typed, "omg where are you?" Hitting send, she glanced upwards again, surprised to see another student at the locker across from Chris'. It was strange to still see someone here; no one really hung around this long.
The boy looked sort of familiar to her. Bright red hair, camouflage pants - this guy was sort of hard to miss. While she couldn't quite place which one exactly, Jill was almost positive that he was in… well, one of her classes. It might have been her chemistry class, or maybe her phys ed course. It didn't really matter to her, regardless.
There was always a chance that he might know where Chris was - the school wasn't overly large, maybe they knew each other? Besides, Chris hadn't answered her text within a whole thirty seconds, so she might as well ask the other guy.
"Excuse me?" She asked, hoping he'd hear her. Not like the hall was big, or it was loud or anything - but she hated repeating herself, unless it was necessary. It was one of the few things that she really disliked.
Startled to hear another voice, the redhead turned around from putting a rather large textbook in his locker. "Oh? Um, hey." His voice was squeaky, kind of obnoxious - almost hard on the ears.
Jill smiled, hoping he wasn't as awkward as he sounded. "Hey. Quick question. Do you know Chris Redfield?" After the boy shook his head, she pressed onwards. "He's kinda tall, brown hair, was wearing a green shirt today. This is his locker," she lightly tapped the locker she was leaning against with her foot. "He was supposed to be here when the bell rang." The kid shrugged. This was useless.
"Wait. That guy?" The redhead grinned, looking at Chris casually walking down the hallway towards them, backpack strung over his shoulder.
"Yeah, actually." Jill laughed, surprised at the convenient timing. Walking briskly towards Chris, knowing that the others were probably already at the Redfields' by now, she yelled a quick thanks behind her to the other boy. He nodded in response, despite the fact she couldn't see him.
The blonde couldn't help but snicker slightly to her companion as they walked home. "Seriously? Sunglasses inside? Isn't this guy supposed to be a genius?"
"I know, Alexia," her twin said with an agreeing sigh, "I know." He knew, alright. Alexia hadn't shut up about this guy (or his friend) in the past week. He knew nearly everything about Albert Wesker, honestly. Alexia had started repeating herself, even – something unusual for such a bright girl.
They had only recently moved into the area, planning to live with their grandfather for the school year. Edward Ashford had once been a principal of the school, and as such, insisted they went there. Besides, it wasn't far away from his house, only a five minute or so walk.
"I can't believe I'll be competing with those two fools for top grades this year," the girl laughed, smoothening her black pencil skirt as she walked. "This will be simple." Alexia was pleased with herself. Like the smart girl she was, she had done some research into who exactly had the top grades last year. And, with great delight, she realized she was on the exact same tier as the two boys, who she had found as much information on as possible. The two were best friends, did almost all of their work together, and both looked like absolute morons.
Alexia Ashford was going to ensure she had the top marks this year, no matter what.
"Leon," a sultry voice spoke from behind the blonde. "You forgot this," the black-haired woman said, holding out a coil-spined notebook. Heaving a sigh, he turned around, squinting his eyes to protect them from the sun.
He didn't really have time for this, he was due at the Redfields' – very soon, in fact. "Oh. Thanks," putting the book under his arm, he didn't even look twice at it. "I guess."
"You should be more careful with things like these." She turned to leave, placing her hands in the pockets of her red skirt. "Anyway, I should leave. Things to do, people to see." The woman walked slowly, as if waiting for him to do something.
Unsure, he sighed, and grabbed her arm. "Hey, come with me?"
[/ and I leave you here with an awful prologue. xo. feel free to review! ]
