Bobby sat with Jerry on the bench at the local park, watching his two girls chase each other. He watched them run and scream as they played tag, envying their carefree bliss.

"Are you happy?" Bobby asked suddenly, feeling the words burst out of his mouth before he could stop them. Jerry glanced over at Bobby before answering, one eye still on the girls.

"Yeah, I am. I love my girls, I love Camille. Life's a lot better than I thought it could be Bobby," Jerry said, a peaceful look on his face.

Bobby kicked at the sand near his foot. "I dunno. It hasn't cracked up to be much of a big deal," he muttered.

Jerry shook his head. "You're looking at it all wrong, man. You gotta make your life your own," he said.

Bobby blinked rapidly over the hot burning behind his eyelids. "I s'pose. It just doesn't seem fair you know."

"I know. It gets easier," Jerry said. Bobby sighed. "I just…miss him so much," he whispered.

"I was gonna do all this with him," he said, gesturing to the playground. "The whole family thing, kids, and bills, a house, the whole fuckin' thing."

Jerry smiled sadly. "He would have been good at it. He loved you right to the end."

Bobby wiped one hand over his face. "He would have been a good parent," he mumbled.

"So would you Bobby," Jerry said before hugging him fiercely. "I know it."
