Staring at him across the bullpen was the easiest thing to do. Sneaking glances when he was sitting at his desk was easy.
And Kate hated that.
It wasn't that she wanted a challenge or anything, but the easier it was to shoot loving glances at her boss, the easier it was for him to catch her.
Of course, karma didn't really bite her until one night after solving a case, when they got in the elevator together. She was holding her bag, and he was just standing there. She hadn't wanted to be trapped in an elevator with the boss.
Kate, you are a liar.
She couldn't help but glance over, only to see him blatantly staring back at her. "Hell, Kate, you got something to say, spit it out. I ain't got all night."
"It's nothing, Gibbs" she reassured him, all the while screaming at herself for getting into the situation in the first place.
"It's clearly not nothin' so talk." He sounded as impatient as always.
"Hell." Kate muttered, but before she could continue, Gibbs stepped towards her, backing her against the wall of the elevator. "Gibbs, what are you doing?" She looked him right in the eye as she asked.
Those beautiful blue eyes that she fell in love with every time she looked at him.
"I'm wondering what the hell has gotten into one of my best agents, Agent Todd." He replied, his voice tense.
She didn't want to answer but couldn't help herself. "You consider me one of your best agents?"
He blinked. He hadn't been expecting that clearly. He walked to the panel and turned off the elevator. "Yes. I do. Now are you gonna explain or do I have to ask DiNozzo to get you to spill?"
"Oh god. Anything but Tony." She groaned, before biting her lip in surprise. She wasn't normally this candid with her boss.
His raised eyebrows meant he was thinking the same thing. He stepped towards her and she involuntarily inhaled his scent- coffee and sawdust.
Sexy she thought, blushing at the thought. She was glad Gibbs wasn't a mind reader, though he grinned at her.
... Damn it.
"I making ya nervous, Agent Todd?" He asked, smirking. Damn him.
"I... Uh..." She couldn't think clearly. His smirk was so damn sexy... But it would be better if that smirk was the only thing he was wearing...
"Is that so, Agent Todd?" He asked, eyebrows raised.
"What?" She asked, before wondering... Had she said that out loud?
"I mean, I know you've been gazing at me across the bullpen for a month but really? You want to get me naked you have to at least get me out of the office!" He chuckled as he said it.
"I said that out loud?" She asked, instantly horrified.
The amused look in his eyes said it all. She stepped away and found herself backed against the wall of the elevator.
He stepped forwards as well, towards her, so close that she could feel his breath on her forehead. He still smelled like coffee and sawdust. And then he was smirking.
"You know Gibbs..." She trailed off, blushing again. "I am beginning to think that there is more to you than meets the eye."
"Ya think, Kate?" He asked, amused. The look he was giving her was possessive and devilish, charming and annoying all at the same time. He smirked again. "You sound like my ex."
Probably not the smartest thing to say, but Kate said. "Which one?"
"Pick one, any one. It doesn't matter. And who the hell brings up exes on a first date?"
"This isn't a first date." The blush was back and she was unable to meet his eyes.
"It ain't? Cause I could've sworn I just heard you express an interest in seein' me naked." He grinned at her inability to meet his eyes.
"What about rule twelve-" she started.
He interrupted her by pressing her against the wall of the elevator, kissing her fiercely but underneath the tension was a passion and a longing. He had wanted this as much as she has. His lips were bruising, his tongue demanding entrance. She was all too happy to grant entrance. His hands grabbed her face possessively.
But eventually they had to surface for air. Gasping, Kate pulled away. "You- you bastard!" She cried when she was able to speak again. "Why the hell didn't you just tell me?"
"I thought I just did." He replied, eyebrows raised.
She smacked him in the chest. "I hate you."
"That kiss said otherwise, Kate." was his chuckled reply. "We should go."
"Go?" She asked, still in a daze from the kiss.
"Yeah. Home." But he had a coy smile on his face, one that she had learned meant trouble- at least concerning Gibbs.
She recovered her brain at last. "Your place or mine?"
His grin said everything. "Wow Kate, there's the agent I met on Air Force One. I missed her." He pulled her into another punishing kiss. As if she couldn't help herself, she started fumbling with his shirt buttons.
He pulled away, breaking their kiss. "Now now, Agent Todd." His eyes twinkled. "I don't really think we should have sex in the elevator. Do you?"
"Well..." She panted. "Have to save something for the second date."
He looked happier at the mention of a second date. "This mean you're asking me out, Kate?"
"Yeah. Even if- damn it. Rule 12. Are you going to rule 12 me?"
"Rule 12?" He looked as if he was considering it. "Nah." He grinned. "I still want to find out exactly what your ass looks like and besides- some rules are meant to be broken."
She could've melted into a puddle when he said that. "Why have you never said anything?" she asked as he flicked the elevator back on. He buttoned his shirt, smirking to himself.
Finally, he just said "Didn't want to give the agency any new scuttlebutt."
"Fair." She conceded.
He kissed her lightly as the elevator doors opened.
"Hell boss, you sure as hell took your-" Tony froze when he saw them walking out of the elevator together.
"See you tomorrow Tony." Kate smiled at him over her shoulder.
Gibbs grabbed her around the waist. "See ya DiNozzo."
As Tony gaped at them, Gibbs chuckled to himself. Kate couldn't help but laugh.
They were still laughing when they got to Gibbs' car.
