so... ENJOY THE INCOMPLETE CHAPTER ONE! (oh and the allegiances of the different clans will only be shown if it's necessary.)
Sunlight filtered into the camp, and as if on cue, the birds starting chirping away.
Stormkit yawned, his mouth stretching wide. He gazed around the nursery, to find that the rest were still asleep; But he knew not for long.
Lightningkit was still sleeping too, so Stormkit jabbed him lightly in the stomach. No response. He jabbed him again, harder.
Lightningkit opened one eye, staring at Stormkit mischievously, and began to yowl. Stormkit leaped at Lightningkit, bowling him over. They both tussled on the soft moss until they saw Volepelt still lying on the floor with her eyes gazing at them; humor glinted in her eyes. Uh oh, Stormkit thought to himself.
They were frozen as statues and got away from each other slowly. Volepelt smiled at them and rose to her feet. Lightningkit tried to make a run for it, but got cut off from Volepelt. Stormkit began laughing at him.
She grabbed both of them by their scruffs and set them down next to her. Lightningkit was the first to shuffle his paws.
Volepelt sat down on the moss, expecting them to speak first.
"So…," Stormkit started. "I think we should forget about this and you should go back to sleep mom." He really didn't expect it to work, but he still had to try to make her lay off them for a bit.
"Well…," Volepelt started hesitantly. "I guess I could ask Goldenblossom to watch you both with her kits, I don't want to give her more trouble, but…." She sighed deeply before falling into the clutches of the temptation to sleep.
Stormkit gazed at Lightningkit. They both shrugged. Lightningkit got up to pad out of the nursery. He gazed back at Stormkit.
"Well, are you going to come or not?" said Lightningkit before he bounded out of the nursery, tail high in the air.
He gazed at Volepelt, then back outside. I've always wanted to explore the forest, but…. He sighed and slinked out of the nursery sneakily.
......
The forest was alive with the sounds of small birds and mice. Stormkit prodded a log with his paw cautiously. He wanted to see all of the things the forest had to offer.
"Hey Stormkit," Mewed Lightningkit. "Look at this big hole! It really stinks!" Lightningkit was looking down a big hole; it had scratched sticks and logs around it, as if they were made by a huge and vicious creature.
"Um, Lightningkit," said Stormkit with a hint of fear. "I think something big lives down there; it could be dangerous!"
"Oh don't be a coward Stormkit," Began Lightningkit rudely. "It might have moved out or something, after all, nothing has attacked the clan yet." Lightningkit snorted and started his way down the hole.
Stormkit twitched nervously. I'm not a coward! I'll show him what it takes to be an explorer! Angrily, he went down the hole, passing Lightningkit.
The hole walls were cold and dirty, but the smell inside the hole was even worse. It smelled of carrion and rotten fresh-kill. Bravely, Stormkit charged through the tunnel.
He ran into a black, giant, breathing, and vicious looking animal. It had gnarly-looking claws and a white stripe going down its back. It seemed to be napping, but it began to stir, its size completely terrifying.
"Run!" Yowled Stormkit as he turned around and ran as fast as he could out of the hole.
Lightningkit snorted and gazed at the beast ahead for the first time. He ran out, also terrified.
"What is that thing?!" Said Lightningkit when he caught his breath. His eyes were full of fear.
"I don't know Lightningkit," Stormkit mewed. "Let's just-" He was cut off by the snarling of the beast, as it leaped at Lightningkit. If they weren't almost six moons old, they would've both been killed easily.
The monster kept on aiming for Lightningkit's throat, but he was too quick for it, batting its muzzle away and dodging its snapping jaws. It seemed impossible that he was able to dodge its muzzle. The beast slashed his muzzle, causing blood to seep out.
Stormkit was just watching, frozen with fear, but then he got enough courage to join in the fight to help his brother. I'll always stick up for him, even if it takes my life.
He somehow got enough strength to knock the beast off of Lightningkit, surprising all three of them. Stormkit leaped at the monster, finding incredible and scary strength inside him to feel confident about driving away the beast.
Stormkit was in a haze of anger, even though he wasn't angry at all. Because of his rage, he began slashing the beast's muzzle and anywhere he could reach. Stormkit let out a hair-raising snarl at the monster. Where is this power coming from? What am I? Out of the corner of his eye, he could see Lightningkit staring at him fearfully.
As fast as a lightning strike, Stormkit bit the beast's throat, normally his bite wouldn't even hurt so much as a nibble, but the same power made his jaws bite down powerfully. He could feel the adrenaline coursing through his veins; he bit the monster's throat again even harder. The beast's throat began seeping blood, it growled and lumbered away as quickly as it could, but fear was in its pace.
Stormkit turned around to find a fear-stricken Lightningkit. His eyes were horrified, staring at him as if he was another one of the beasts. He's afraid of me now; I don't think he'll ever forget this….
"Don't talk to me, don't go near me," Lightningkit shivered in horror to emphasize his words. "You're a monster…" Lightningkit began to walk back to camp.
"Lightningkit, wait!" Stormkit's heart was stricken by pain. Lightningkit only sped up his pace. "Please! Wait!" Stormkit broke into a run, as Lightningkit began to sprint.
He didn't want to catch him, he wanted to get there before him, so the clan heard his story first, before Lightningkit tells them that he's a monster. A big, terrifying, and dangerous monster….
