A idea that popped up at me in the morning: Why is Pearl so salty?

Formation of Pearls. A ingenious one, using Earth mollusks to form a Pearl, injecting random byproducts of gems here and there, and so on.

But. One Pearl's clam disobeyed. Rose's Pearl.

The clam was accidentally placed in salt water, taking in the delicious salt. The pearl inside was much larger then the rest.

When the mollusk was ready to be taken of it's pearl, the mollusk snapped at the Gems, and bit the carrier. The saltwater covered the Pearl, and the pearl absorbed it, realizing and utilizing the power of Salt. The Pearl physical form started to flicker between a salt shaker and a actual Pearl, and continued to do so for about a minute.

Finally, the Pearl realized that it's not meant to be a salt shaker, and took to a actual Pearl.

"Took ya long enough, stupid Pearl," said the gem that got bitten by the clam.

"Oh shut up, and where's my master?" the Pearl said.

"That's it, this Pearl caused enough trouble for me!" the gem stomped away, absorbing the power of Salt, and becoming salty.

The Salt spread from gem to gem, until all of Homeworld's gems were filled with salt to the brim. They absorbed it insanely fast, and when they came across Earth, they had a entire battle for it, for it's delicious salt water. The Kindergarten there was used to defend against the non-salted gems, who were known as the Crystal Gems.

Hence, is why, Homeworld is extremely salty.
