The Hunger Games: The Reaping
"Silver!" Diamond called to her brother, "Wake up!"
"Mmmph!" Silver mumbled trying to burrow beneath the sea of blankets.
"Its Reaping Day!" Diamond reminded him. At that, Silver bolted up and quickly dressed up.
"Why didn't you wake me up earlier?" he shouted, his brain was in a haze, and he could still remeber his nightmares last night's (well every night) about the past Games.
"You were mumbling something about volunteering this year, so I was afraid to wake you up until now!" Diamond said, her eyes wide with fear for her brother.
"Don't worry about it Diamond, theres thousands of people in District 1, theres no way you and I will be picked." Silver said, but Diamond can still hear a note of fear in his voice.
"Hurry up guys!" their mother shouted from the kitchen," I already see the Peacekeepers coming!"
"Come on." Diamond said, " We better get going."
It was a beautiful day, but the reaping had ruined it for everyone. As they walked to the reaping they didn't say a word, and Diamond was clenching tightly to her brother's hand with silent tears streaming down her pale face.
"Happy Hunger Games!" a man said, standing on a big round stage. "May the odds EVER be in your favor." "Lets begin." he said, as he reached into the bowl. In that moment, everyone drew their breaths, and you can hear a pin drop from a mile away. And Silver prayed with everything he had that it wouldn't be Diamond.
"Diamond!" he called out. Diamond slowly walked up onto the stage trembling with fear . When the man asked for volunteers, nobody dared raise hand."Nobody?" he asked."Very well then."
"NO!" a voice suddenly shouted from the crowd. Diamond looked to find her brother struggling against the grip of four Peacekeepers. "NO!" he shouted again, "I WON'T LET YOU DO THIS!" "YOU'RE ONLY TWELVE!" "YOU CAN'T GO!" he shouted tears now streaming down his own face.
"Silver" Diamond said unusally calm. "The Capitol has chosen me, I'm sorry, but I have to go." but after she said that, her voice broke and she turned away.
Lets move on..." the man said curtly, reaching into the other reaping ball. He unfolded the small slip of paper and read.
"Silver."
"NO!" Diamond managed screamed, but that was too much for her, and she fell limp and fainted.
