Annabeth Chase was late. She had overslept 5 minutes, which has now thrown off her whole day. Each morning she woke up, arrived at Churchstreet Coffee for her black coffee with two sugars- which was essential for her to function the whole work day- and promptly went to work.
This had been her daily routine for months, and she even had a seat at the coffee shop that she sat in every morning. It was her table- one with two seats opposite of each other, a round, smooth surface, and sat closest to the door if she ever needed to rush out.
Though the obsession with the table was odd, it was in Annabeth's nature to be organized and with her boyfriend gone; it was worse than usual.
Her boyfriend. Percy. God, did she miss him. He was a marine on duty, and had been in Iraq for months. Internet service was little to none in his camp, so they mostly communicated through letters. He hadn't responded in weeks, and even though she knew that he was busy, she always worried.
Now walking in the door, Annabeth had a mini-heart attack thinking she might have left her phone at her apartment- so she filed through her purse, until she placed her hands on it, and soothed her nerves.
"Hey there 'Beth."
Looking up she froze. There, sitting at her table and facing her was Percy Jackson. He looked so goddamned handsome in his uniform, his normally dark shaggy hair cut neatly, tanned skin from time in the sun, muscles visible, and those green eyes.
Her heart pounded in her ears as she opened her mouth, yet no noise came out, so she just covered her mouth with her hand.
He smirked while standing up, "Mind if I join you?"
Tears pricked at her eyes while she rushed forward into his embrace. She hooked her arms around his neck, barely chocking out, "How?"
Percy buried his face in her curly blonde hair, raising her off the ground, "Surprised me with leave. I've missed you so much."
They stayed like that, just holding each other, tears silently streaming down her face.
Eventually she needed to know, "How long?"
He pulled away to look at her, "6 months."
Annabeth squeezed her eyes shut as joyful tears rushed out. He kissed her forehead and she wrapped her arms around his waist, hugging him lovingly.
4 Months Later
Now sitting on a log in front of a campfire were Percy Jackson and Annabeth Chase. They managed to stay a week at the summer camp where they had first met.
Staring at the small fire before her, with Percy's arm wrapped securely around her, Annabeth couldn't believe her luck. Having a boyfriend who is gone for months at a time really made her appreciate every moment with him.
He turned to her and looked into her steel grey eyes, "I really do love you."
She smiled, "I sure hope so," but kissed him softly, "I love you too."
He tightened his grip on her waist and cleared his throat, "So I was sent my next schedule."
Annabeth sighed and looked down. They were having such a good time and she really didn't want to think about him leaving again.
"And?"
He was scooting off the log and onto the ground as he talked, "And… I'll be gone for 4 months."
"Okay then,"
He was now on one knee.
"Percy…" Annabeth whispered as she saw what he was doing.
"And when I get back, I would like for you to marry me," he brought out a beautiful engagement ring.
And for the second time within 4 months, Annabeth Chase was left speechless by her boyfr- fiancé. Well, she should probably say yes before calling him her fiancé.
"Yes. Oh my god, yes."
He looked so relieved and happy. And he had barely put the ring on her finger when she leapt on him, sending him on his back with her golden curls hovering over his face. She leant down and pressed her lips on his, and smiled into it.
