A Moment To Live For

By: blues-lover

Enzan strolled down the empty streets of Densan. His mind was consumed in thought, mostly random memories. The sun was setting somewhere off in the distance. The light of day danced with the light of twilight, making the sky a beautiful mix of warm, inviting colors.

Enzan could feel a cool autumn breeze whisk around him. He was dressed in a warm outfit suitable for the fall weather. It consisted of a brown jacket, a pair of tattered blue jeans, and a loosely worn red scarf.

The dual-haired boy, (though none or very few knew it) lived for moments like this. Where he could be engulfed in the momentary serenity of everyday life. It was a feeling he couldn't quite place, almost like a melancholy happiness.

A Street light flickered on near by, warning of the darkness that was soon to come. Enzan took no notice to this and continued his monotonous walking.

Blues swayed in his PET with each step. He kept his eyes fixated on his Operator, trying to read him. His attempts were futile though, for Enzan's face was blank and expression less. Even his eyes seemed nonchalantly empty.

Five times, five times in all the time Blues had known Enzan, had he seen him in a state like this. None of those times had it been as peaceful as this.

A heavy feeling settled in the crimson navi's chest. He knew how rare it was for a moment like this. The fact that it could end at any time pained the stoic navi.

Enzan with out knowing it had gone into a dream like state. His eyes were half closed and his lips were slightly open. Whether he was breathing or not he didn't know nor did he care. He could die at that moment and be perfectly content. No regrets or remorse of any kind. An unconscious smile etched at the edges of Enzan mouth. The only thing he was vaguely aware of was the slight bitter taste in his mouth. In a sense it could have been referred to as morning breath.

Darkness finally settled in over the glimmering city. Enzan's eyes drifted lazily toward the vibrant lights of the buildings surrounding him. He had reached a busy part of town, one that was hustling and bustling with the sounds and movements of nightlife.

A man walked past him in a brisk manner, bumping Enzan's shoulder as he went. Enzan's eyes snapped open from their previous half aware state. He felt the blissfulness drain from him, replaced by the cold grip of reality. His heart sank, he felt almost wounded. "Kuso," he uttered under his breath.

He clenched his eyes closed tightly and let out a much needed sigh. Shaking his head bitterly he shoved his hands in his pockets. "Enzan-sama?" Blues asked cautiously.

Enzan took his hand out of his pocket and held his PET in view, "Lets go home Blues."

A/N: Have you ever had a moment like that? To me it's the best feeling anyone could ever hope for. You don't worry or think you're just kind of there but not there, like a ghost. I encourage any and all 'ghosts' to review this story. Even if you can't relate and you just liked it please review. Arigato.
