Your Lie in April - Encore
Kousei's POV, 60 years from the Gala Performance
"It's been a good life." Arima Kousei thought to himself, while gazing at the city from his porch. That performance, so long ago, has been his last. He remained by himself, teaching others to play the piano but never doing so himself. He had watched as his pupil, Nagi, had grown into a famous and respected musician. At times, he would feel pangs of nostalgia when gazing at a piano, but he knew he could never return to it. His aspirations and dreams all died that day, died with her - the golden haired girl whose name he could no longer remember.
Afterwards, he acted as though he was fine, while in reality he was simply a hollow shell. Arima Kousei died that day, and left a ghost in his place. He lived his entire life simply going through the motions, pretending to be the musician when in reality he was only ever a spectator. Nobody could break through to him, so eventually they all left him. All except Tsubaki and Watari, who continued to pay him daily visits until the end of their days. He knew his time was nearly up as well, and that he would be glad to leave this life behind. He sighed, drawing in his last breath, and closed his eyes.
"Kousei?" he heard a voice ask. It struck a chord in his vacant heart, one that had not been played for a long time. Opening his eyes, he looked up, and saw her. With a depth of feeling conveying his emotions for this girl, he choked "Miyazono Kaori." She simply looked at him, and gestured to the piano beside her. As he went to take his seat, she lifted her violin, drew the bow and said "You reached me."
