Leto and Ghanima slept silently on the cold, hard floor of the Sietch, the
warmth of their bodies as their only comfort. Desert mice scurried in the
corners of the room. Leto's hard, worm-like skin scraped across Ghani's arm
as he turned in his sleep. The harshness of his skin woke her.
"Oh Leto," she said, satring into his blank, unconscious face. "What will become of us?" She started to weep, her tears falling to the sand. She laid back down next to him, wrapped her arms around his body, and fell back asleep. She dreamt of many troubling things. She dreamt of her aunt, of Abomination, of Leto, and the Atreides bloodline.
Leto had awakened to Ghani's tossing and turning in the night. He put his hand on her head, and gently kissed her to calm her troubled mind. He walked out of the sietch entrance and scanned the desert. He started to run. And run, and run and run....
Ghanima startled awake when Leto left her side. "Leto!" she called out, running out of the sietch, hoping to catch him before he left. "Leto!" she meant to tell him of the plot against her. She had over heard a servant's conversation the day before...
(flashback)
A servant girl in the palace, Actulan is part of a rebel party that still wants to destroy the Atreides monopoly on spice, and the royal bloodline to be broken. She knew Leto couldn't have children, for he was no longer human. But Ghani, Ghani was human, vulnerable. She could be destroyed. Actulan and Hannah, a good friend of hers, were cleaning the bathroom, talking about the plot to kill Ghanima.
"... The Atreides bloodline must be broken. We will have Ghanima's water, in our cup."
Ghanima, who was in the bedroom, heard the end of her servants conversation. She must remain inconspicuous. She cannot let them know that she had heard. "Leto may be the only one I can trust with this." She thought. She walked abrubtly into the bathroom. "Out ladies, I must shower."
(Present time)
Ghanima and Leto stood around the corner from the Dining Hall. There was a Banquet, to honor Leto ll, the new Emperor.
"We need to talk, Leto. I fear for the Atreides." Ghani said in their ancient language.
"We shall speak later, sister. Now we must meet our guests. It would be rude to keep them waiting," replied Leto.
Ghanima, at the right side of Leto, raised her cup.
"To the Emporer." Leto then raised his own goblet.
"To the Atreides." they all drank wine out of their goblets, and sat down. Ghani noticed an almost undetectable trace of sourness in her drink. 'Poison!' she thought. Her body weakened, and she fell to the floor. Leto fell down to her side. "Ghani! Ghanima!" Tears fell down his face, and onto hers.
"Leto, my brother..." Ghani whispered, before falling dead.
"GHANI!" Leto screamed as he awoke, sweat dripping down his face. He found himself back in the sietch, Ghanima staring at him, startled.
"What's wrong? What happened?"
"Nothing sister. t was just a bad dream." He hugged Ghani and kissed her. She laid back down and fell asleep. But Leto couldn't.
Was it a dream, or a vision?
