Day 1- Denim:
Denim (den'im) n. A strong, twilded cotton used for jeans, overalls, and work clothes.
Katara pondered over the material of her husband's vest. It was taught and strong, never tearing or even showing signs of struggle when she pulled on it. It was amazing that it was so much plainer than anything else he wore everyday, so much stronger and more loved. He had had it ever since he had shown up at the Western Air Temple, all those years ago.
Her fingers ran over the denim until she had found the hole he had mentioned. He had always worn this vest on trips to the different parts of the country. She smiled, imagining him with all his men, looking exactly like them, making them feel equal to him. He was so kind to them, she couldn't imagine how she could have ever hated him now that she saw who he really was.
She snuggled in closer to the plush chair, wondering how he ripped a hole into such a strong fabric. Sighing, she shook her head, smirking at the thought of getting the whole enthusiastic story tonight.
Zuko smiled, thanking his lucky stars that he was tucked into his warm bed instead of on the ground camping with the rest of his army. He was even more thankful his wife was curled up into him. ON her was his old newly repaired, denim vest. He was running his finger lightly on her nearly there repair.
A lot of things had happened while he was wearing that old, denim vest: First kiss with her, winning a one hundred year war, nearly getting killed by an angry water bender with a lot of built up sexual tension, a nice night with that vest ending up being the only splotch of red in a pile of blue clothes, and the day she said yes. The list could go on.
When he really thought about it, Katara's heart seemed made of denim: strong, hard to wear out, harder to tear. He had made a hole once, and like his vest, it was slowly being sewn up to a seam that was easily looked over. He had vowed to never hurt her again like that.
They were definitely made of denim.
