J.K. Rowling owns all the characters in this story, and the Hogwarts Express. Unfortunately, I am not a genius and only own Heidi the owl.
DH spoilers.
The train shook as it left the station, and a young boy with jet-black hair hurried to catch up with his brother.
"Wait up, James!"
James turned around, grinning.
"Sorry, Al. C'mon, let's go find Rose and Hugo," he said, and hurried away before Albus could respond.
Sighing, Albus struggled with his trunk full of school supplies as he walked down the aisle of the Hogwarts Express, when something flew at him from an open window. Rubbing his shoulder, he looked down to see what had hit him. It was a heap of crumpled feather quills, or at least that's what it looked like before it moved. The feathers seemed
to rearrange themselves before flying up and landing on Albus's shoulder rather clumsily.
It was an owl.
She was a snowy owl, ghost-like and brilliantly white. She was truly beautiful, after getting over being blasted in through a window by the speed of the train.
"Who're you?" said Albus, reaching out a hand to stroke her silk, feather wings. The owl clicked her beak, and Albus drew his hand away nervously, before realizing there was a letter attached to her leg. Albus took the owls burden, untied it, and recognized his father's handwriting immediately.
Dear Albus,
This owl's name is Heidi. I was going to send her to you during breakfast with the other post owls but she seems to be kind of clumsy and I didn't want your first meeting to be a disastor.
Albus paused, glancing wryly at the snowy owl, thinking that spilled pumpkin juice was much less worrying then a bruised shoulder, but the owl clicked her beak again, as though inviting him to keep reading.
If you want her, she is you start-of-year present. James got a broom, but first years aren't allowed them, so I thought you might like an owl. Let James borrow her if he needs to send a letter though, OK?
I once had a snowy owl, too, and she was one of my best friends. I hope you and Heidi will become close friends as well.
Love,
Dad
Suddenly forgetting the collision, Albus stared up at the owl, grinning.
"What do you think? Want to be my owl, Heidi?" he asked her. She hooted happily and Albus, taking that as a yes, set off down the aisle once more, his new owl perched serenely on his shoulder.
Outside, her beautifully white feathers set against the gold leaves of a tree, perched another snowy owl, even more wraithlike then Heidi. With a dignified hoot, she flew off into the periwinkle sky, disappearing in the clouds.
What do you think? Kind of short, but it's my first fanfic.
