The woman sat at her desk, the office lights off and the window blinds closed. Those from more northern places would consider the office unbearably hot, but only if they had teleported directly from the tundra and skipped the Nova Scotian outdoors. The woman was rather comfortable, glad that her workplace was a refuge from the heat wave going on around her.

Her eyes settled on the door as she heard it open, intrigued only slightly when she saw no one enter. She simply chalked it up to her coworker leaving the office for her regular cigarette breaks. She turned back to the computer screen, ticking off the minutes until she was allowed to leave.

The phone rang, and the woman picked it up.

"Good afternoon, LEA Place, this is Acacia speaking." Acacia sped through her customary phone greeting, infusing it with annoyingly false cheer.

She was greeted with a faint crackle on the other end.

"Hello?" Acacia looked at the receiver, shrugged, and hung up the phone. They would call back if it was truly important.

She turned to better face the front door, and was faced with a wall of darkness. The scream that wanted to escape from her lips were smothered by the infinitely black eddies swirling to engulf her.
