The First Pilgrimage
By Tower21
The Story from time before time
"Are you all listening?" the Sage asked.
The small group of children sat around the old Yevon monk, each with wide eyed innocence and fascination. This man after all had been in the growing clergy for fifty years, converting his entire village to the most sensible philosophy for these times. The children on the other hand, cared nothing for the political rants of the theocrats, the frustration of their opponents or the machinations of the great evil which endlessly stalks the landscape. This was just the entertaining musings of a great man.
"When I mutter the words 'The First Pilgrimage' what comes to mind hmm?" the old Yevonite asked in the midday sun. A young boy, full with enthusiasm and excitement stood up. "Was it by the High Summoner Yunalesca, royal noble of Zanarkand?"
The old man humoured the boy, with a small chuckle he continued. "Many have said the same thing, the elegant yet powerful princess of the lost realm, who set out across a fading world under the nightmarish night sky of the apocalypse itself, across the twisted battlefield and to into the very heart of her nemesis enemy, Bevelle?"
The sage relaxed back, knowing full well his chance to tell the story was approaching. "I'm afraid, the honour was not hers. Though she drove a blade deep into Bevelle's heart just as her now accursed father Yevon does in our time and forged an alliance with her hated enemies almost two hundred years ago, she does not hold the title as the first pilgrim. The only one to ever defeat Sin she was, but the founder of a tradition and of the summoning she was not."
The children sat, anxiously waiting for what the Sage had to say.
"Let me tell you a legend, wrapped in mystery and romance from the time before time. Before Sin appeared, there was a period we know as the "three thousand years". That after the mythical great schism of antiquity, mankind spread out across Spira where his great civilisations developed. There was no Sin except for the sin in men's hearts which grew as their machina grew in complexity. The land and the sky became more and more lacerated with the horror of war and hatred, permeating man's very heart and soul in turn driving him to fight in the next war. But at some point in this mysterious and dark era lies our story. It's a tale almost from time immemorial, pieced together over the ages. Learn about an event which would change the world forever."
What do you think? This is my first story on Fanfiction and I came up with it a long time ago but never put pen to paper: P
