Best Friends

"Are you sure you'll be alright, Sakura?" Her older brother looked up at her with concerned eyes. Confused, Sakura tilted her head, queueing her brother to speak again. "You know, with the war. The last thing I'd want to see is you hurt." Sakura smiled, "Of course!" she exclaimed. Her voice was serious, but it kept an eager, childish tone to it. "You and the others have been doing so much, I want to help out too~!"

She had never expected it to be like this.

Ever since the war against Nohr, Sakura has been in charge of healing the wounded in her kingdom- a talent she has had since she was little. People praised Sakura's ability to heal and bring soldiers to the front line faster than anyone, though she never thought much of it. If anything, she always felt as though she was a burden towards others- her shyness and anxiety had often made her see herself as awkward and a waste of time. Regardless of how she felt, Sakura made her way towards the med-house, where she'd be greeted by dozens of injured soldiers yet again.

Sakura slowly peaked her head through the door, not wanting to alert anyone. "E-Excuse me..." Her words come out inaudibly, "I'm coming in..." Walking in the room and checking on the wounded, Sakura abruptly freezes in front of one body. Starting to lose grip of herself, her hands shake almost uncontrollably, causing her stave to slip out of her hand. Sakura stares down at the body of her best friend, wounded and unconscious.

"H-Hana..?"

Seeing her friend injured wasn't a new thing to Sakura; Hana has always been reckless ever since they met. So many of her escapades had resulted in her bruised and scraped up, and Sakura had even gotten used to it to an extent. Normally she wouldn't be phased, but seeing Hana unconscious was a new sight for Sakura. Thinking about her best friend being ruthlessly cut down by Nohrian blades, Sakura's heart sunk.

"Are you sure you'll be alright, Sakura?"

One more glance at her best friend destroyed her completely. Tears falling, Sakura's feelings of worthlessness started to surface. She'd put her heart into healing as much as she could, over and over- but no matter how hard she tried, the hurt would never end. Each injured soldier brought to her slowly made her realize that her job was futile, that the process would continue to repeat itself regardless of how much she wanted it to stop.

Sakura gave up on trying to hide her crying, but the more she cried, the more she felt weak- the more she felt like a complete failure. Raising her hand to clean her tears, she feels a warm sensation on her cheek. Her head darts down towards her best friend, whose eyes were now open.

"Lady Sakura..." Hana spoke weakly, which hurt Sakura even more; she didn't want even more proof that her friend was in pain. Unable to respond, Sakura stood there, crying, as Hana's hand softly moved from her cheek up to her tears, wiping them away slowly. Once Hana felt content, she let her hand fall down to Sakura's, gently clasping it. Giving it a small squeeze, Hana's eyes flutter down as she starts to lose consciousness again.

Squeezing her hand again, Hana mutters, seemingly half asleep, "I love you..." *

"H-Hana..?" No response. Knowing her friend fell back unconscious, Sakura finishes drying off her tears, starting to calm down. Stroking her friends hair, a smile starts to arise as she looks down at Hana's sleeping face.

"I love you too..."
