The light of the angel's wings faded into the distance and yet the extreme satisfaction of the hunters down below did not.
"Oi, Sam, you got those drinks?" Shouted Dean in the direction of the kitchen, it was done, it was all finally done. The affirmative sounded from the kitchen and Dean sighed contentedly, leaned back into the couch and closed his eyes.
He wasn't sure what it was that woke him, it could have been the light taps of footsteps, and it might have been what he swore were fingertips brushing his hair back from his forehead. Either way, nothing was there when he opened his eyes.
He lay there for a few moments, what caught his eye being the precariously stacked boxes of beer against the far wall. "SAM!". A thud sounded from upstairs and muffled curses echoed. "Sam….?"
"Yup! The dresser and me had an argument! Right, sorry. Coming!"
"An.. argument?…."
"Shut up Jerk, you startled me!"
"Must be losing you're touch Sammy-boy.."
Sam hopped down the stairs, still pulling on one leg of his jeans and failing miserably, "Right! What did you want, jerk?" He asked.
"We're having a party tonight. Call everyone."
Dean was pretty sure he was hammered, bright lights danced in front of his eyes and people seemed to blur as they danced past.
Then again, Dean wasn't very sure of anything anymore. No matter he thought, re-joining the crowd.
One step to go and he was pulled back by his collar, instincts took over and he whipped around, albeit a little sluggishly and punched wildly, only to find Cas holding his now limp fist.
"Oh… shit. Hi Cas" He slurred. Cas shook his head, muttering and placed two fingers on Dean's forehead.
Dean blinked, his mind suddenly clearing. "Cas! sonofabitch! I thought you were with the angels!"
His mind cartwheeled with thoughts, Cas looked at him confusedly. "Of course I am, I'll be going back. I'm here to say… goodbye"
Dean winced, "You mean, you're not going to stay then…"
"I see no reason to stay Dean, the earth doesn't need me anymore?"
Dean didn't know where this desperation was coming from but he wasn't going to question it, Cas can't leave. Cas cannot leave. Other thoughts were shoved violently to the back of his mind, forgotten.
"I need you, Cas!"
"Dean, you are in no danger. I still don't see why I would sta-"
He was cut off abruptly, by Dean's lips. He froze and he could feel Dean hesitating, Dean drew back an inch only to find Cas' fingers in his hair drawing them closer together and Dean melted into the kiss, it seemed to last forever. Cas gasped as he finally broke away and after a tense few seconds where neither knew what to do, Dean spoke up.
"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have-"
Cas slammed his lips back onto Dean's in one sweet kiss.
"I changed my mind. I'm never leaving, Dean" He murmured into Dean's lips and the fireworks between them seemed as real as the ones on the horizon.
