Let The Games Begin

A Hunger Games Poem

Standing in the crowd, you shake with fear

For the nightmare of you town in here

People shout, cameras start rolling

Your countdown to death is now tolling

A wave of purple, a shade of haze.

The colors blur as she walks onto the stage

When she speaks she lays your deathbed

Your life will soon come to its end

She calls one kid, they won't last for sure.

The murderer smiles, it's sickening of her.

How can she be happy on the day

She sends children to their graves?

The next name is said, your jaw drops in surprise

For it's your name they said, you fight the urge to cry

Your legs are jelly, but you force your way

To Death waiting on the stage

You look at your fellow tribute you know you'll both die

You feel sick as the Capitol woman lies

"May the odds ever be in your favor, you'll do just fine!"

"You can win it! This is your time!"

The Peacemakers guide you to the Town Hall

To see your loved ones before the deadly brawl

You kiss your family, your friends hope you won't die

And you're left to cry after your final goodbye.

The next days blur, Capitol and training

Practicing to be the last one remaining

You're learning now how to be a killer,

And your fellow tribute? You know you must kill her.

The days are done, your final hour has come

You are sickened that the Gamemakers find this fun.

Your prep team smiles, they wish you good luck

But they know you're going down, just like a buck.

The platform begins to rise

Your fellow tribute plans to hide

The countdown is starting, the count to your end

And now the announcer yells, "Let the Games begin!"
