She felt the soft touches on her chest even before she opened her eyes, felt the weight of a body on hers.

She felt the softness of a single finger following her jawline, to her neck and down her collarbone before coming to a rest over her heart. Her lips curved and she smiled in the darkness.

She felt lips carefully being pressed to her chest, forming a line. One kiss followed by another. Careful at first but turning into little tugs after a little while. A mixture of moan and mumble fell from her lips.

"What are you doing?", she asked into darkness, felt the lips form into a smile against her chest, lingering.

She felt the words against her skin before she heard them. "It's your birthday. I want to give you your special present." The words gave way to silence again as she felt soft lips on her skin again.

"You know I don't like the day," she growled, trying to turn away to go back to sleep, but getting stopped by hands holding her down. She felt the piercing look even with her eyes closed. She opened them slowly and met the blonde's stare, holding it, challenging.

"Hold still," the blonde smiled and leaned down to gently kiss her girlfriend before directing her attention back to her chest.

"You have to get up early for work," the dark haired tried to convince her. Clarke knew her girlfriend would try everything to get out of her birthday.

"Shhh," she knew without looking that telling her to shh got her one of her famous eye-rolls, but she didn't care. This was her girl and it was her birthday. She wanted to make her feel special.

"Fine." Lexa closed her eyes and focused on the soft lips again. How they moved across her chest in what seemed to be a specific line. The kisses weren't just randomly placed and it made her wonder. Little tugs, over and over again. Kisses getting more demanding. No longer as soft as they started out.

She felt the ghosting touch of Clarke's fingers along her arms, up her forearms and down her sides before they came to rest on her hips.

She felt the kisses getting softer again, felt them leave their continuous trail and instead move up her neck.

She felt Clarke's lips on hers, the gentle kiss that meant so much.

"Let's sleep," she heard her say and despite being happy about getting out of what seemed to have been birthday plans, she was also sad about it ending right there.

She nodded into the darkness and hummed in agreement before pulling her girlfriend's arm around her middle to have her as close to herself as possible. She intertwined her fingers with Clarke's and gently squeezed her hand.

"You know I love you", she mumbled, knowing that the blonde had heard her by the way she pulled her yet a little closer.

The last thing she felt before sleep took over was the soft kiss to the back of her neck.

Having to work the early shift, Clarke was long gone, but on her way to the bathroom, Lexa had already discovered that her girlfriend had prepared breakfast for her. She had even spotted the little note on the pillow next to her the moment she had opened her eyes to find Clarke's side of the bed empty.

After a long hot shower, she found herself standing in front of the mirror, disbelievingly staring at herself, the little note in her hand.

Now it all made sense. The dark haired smiled to herself, Clarke had said it was her special present last night and now she understood what she had meant.

On Lexa's chest, the outlines of a heart formed in beautiful colors. She stared at the heart and looked down at the note again, unable to keep the smile from her lips.

I gave you my heart. Happy Birthday, I love you.
