On the surface it seemed like a happy ending: Agent Smith had been killed, Morpheus had been rescued and they had survived to continue the revolution. The sadness of betrayal and of the death of their team mates was regrettable of course, but the victories far surpassed and eclipsed the lost.
Trinity stood only a little way off from the group, but she felt the inches more like miles. All the celebrations were, whilst welcome, undeserved. Because she had lied.
Three little words that had altered the entire course of the revolution.
I love you.
Anything could happen in the matrix if you decided that it should be so – knowing this was how they could defy gravity, dodge bullets, do the impossible. It was only the limitations of one's mind that limited the actions a person would do. When she had confessed to her dying friend that the reason she knew Neo was The One was that she loved him she empowered his mind. She enabled him to do the impossible.
At the time it had seemed so right. It was only now that she realised how wrong it was.
Does believing in something make it any more real? Trinity had often wondered it; they all had at some point. As Morpheus said, if real was what you could feel, smell, taste and see, then 'real' was simply electrical signals interpreted by your brain. Reality was devoid of any meaning in the matrix, but in the actual world it had startling consequences.

They had ceased their search for the fabled 'The One', potential recruitments becoming more and more sporadic as the rest of the team became more and more convinced that they were unnecessary. Perhaps they were, perhaps, but as the days passed Trinity couldn't bring herself to admit what she had done. Yes she'd given him a second chance at life, but at the same time she'd theoretically killed the entire human race.
An accident, that's all it was. And when she'd said it she'd honestly believed it to be true. When faced with the death of yourself or a loved one the mind does desperate things. It was all to easy in those tense moments as she cradled Neo's lifeless head to let those tentative hopes find their way into the real world Yes she liked him, and yes she wanted him to live. But deep in her heart Trinity knew that she didn't, nor ever could, love him.
Destiny is not limited to just what one believes. If Neo believed he was The One then that was all it was: a belief, nothing more. And one day they would be forced to confront that fact. On that day she would hold his lifeless body for a second time, feeling the distraught and disbelieving stares of her companions and feel the unforgiving and ever present guilt that had not left her since those three words left her lips
I love you
This randomly came into my head today - I've only seen the first film for the first time this week, so I'm completely clueless about the rest but... Hope you like it, reviews and criticisms always appreciated x
