Hidan's Lullaby
Take 2
Summary: There were many things Hidan loved about Kakuzu; his stitches, his eyes, his hair, and or course, his heart. Or should he say hearts?

Hidan noticed something from the corner of his eye and he jerked. "Kakuzu!" he warned.
"I see him," Kakuzu grunted quietly to himself and swung.
The Kumo ninja barely saw what hit him before his face was caved in by the corner of a metal brief case. Kakuzu followed through with his strike and blood splattered on his arm. Kakuzu casually straightened his form, loosely shaking his hand to throw the blood off.
Hidan looked around him, silently taking in everything he and his parent had just done.
It had been an ambush, right after they had left the exchange point. Kakuzu had been shocked as he was attacked first, a swordsman taking out a heart from behind. Hidan had reacted instantly, lobbing the shinobi in half with his scythe. Within moments, they were surrounded by at least twenty jounin-ranked shinobi, it was a long and tiring battle.
"Hidan."
Said zealot turned in question to the miser and was stunned when the older held up a pale severed arm. Hidan glanced down at himself in surprise.
"Oh," Hidan blushed sheepishly.
Kakuzu snorted before walking over, uncaringly stepping on the bodies in his way. Hidan picked up his scythe and placed it on his back while shortening the distance to Kakuzu, though he took more care to where he stepped. Once they met, Kakuzu began to sow the arm back on.
"Leader-sama says to stay out for the night before returning," Kakuzu said.
Hidan huffed. "Bastard," he wanted to go home dammit!
"Get over it," Kakuzu grunted, returning his stitches to his body. "Come one."
As it turns out, while they walked towards an old camp site, they were attacked again. It would seem Kumo was trying for Hidan's immortality as two tried to come at him for his blood. Quickly disposing of them, they went elsewhere and were attacked again, this time with poison for Kakuzu; luckily a common one.
By midnight, they had finally lost them and the Zombie Duo were a little paranoid at everything. Hidan especially was carrying a fear of capture and torture.
Out of anxiousness, though well hidden, Kakuzu released one of his monsters to watch the perimeter. Hidan ignored him as he sent his senses out; pacing back and forth like a caged wild animal.
"I'll take first watch," Kakuzu said, sitting down. "Get some rest before you collapse."
But Hidan couldn't rest, he was too antsy. Who knew who'd attack next? Who would succeed and take him way?
"Hidan," Kakuzu said sternly and the albino paused. "Come here."
Hidan hesitated, self-consciously looking around him, before complying. Hidan yelped as he was suddenly yanked down into the miser's arms and held there; his head don Kakuzu's chest.
Kakuzu silently removed the natural armor his stitches created around his chest. With the barrier gone, a sound could be heard. Kakuzu's real heart thumped softly with his breathing.
Hidan jolted in surprise but then he relaxed, listening to the steady beat of his partner's life source. It comforted Hidan to know his partner trusted him so greatly to allow his main heart exposure like this. Soon, Hidan's eyelids dropped.
"Sleep," a familiary voice whispered like wind. "We'll be home before you know it."
Soon, Hidan was asleep, listening to his lullaby.
End.
