Commemoration
Once a year Corona and Aqune vanish. They are gone for days at a time. Their spiders are even left behind. The days are never the same. Their time away fluctuates between five days and three. This year is the fourth time.
The Spider Riders were sure they could find them. They have since been proved wrong. The sisters snuck away without being seen once more. All traces of them have been erased.
Their act is utterly infuriating.
"I can't believe this!" Hunter exclaims. "How can they get past all of us?"
Prince Lumen chuckles good-naturedly. "I suppose it's because you 'trained' them, great saviour,"
Hunter growls as he glowers at the prince. He starts to pace the training room. His hands are clasped tightly behind his back. He grumbles to himself irately. The lack of answers to the annual question is finally touching upon the last of his patience.
"I want to know!" he yells.
"This is… nice," Aqune comments.
"I've been working on my cooking," Corona responds eagerly. "I'm sure that this one is edible. You won't dislocate your jaw."
"Hunter is still angry with you about that; isn't he?" she smiles softly.
Corona sighs and shrugs. She feigns ignorance when she is anything but. Hunter hasn't spoken to her since that day. It was months ago but the memory is still clear to him.
"This is edible," Aqune says, surprised. "It actually tastes nice. Well done, sister."
Corona smiles elatedly. She takes a large mouthful of her sandwich. The picnic spread out before them consists of small snacks. She made them all in the hopes of gaining her sister's trust in the kitchen. As a child she had always wanted for the two of them to cook together.
The wind whistles delightedly. The clear blue sky shines upon the land gloriously. The weather is unusually nice for the time of year. They had expected rain. Their shelter is lying a few feet from them.
"Do you think they're proud of us?" Corona asks suddenly.
Her eyes are distant. The past is a topic which is usually unwelcomed between them. There was too many differences in their childhood's. Neither could truly understand the other because of it. They both secretly harboured a great dislike of their circumstances.
"Are you referring to mother and father?" Aqune frowns.
"Yes…" Corona sighs.
"We can go back. I'm sure that our departure hasn't been felt too deeply. Another day would be nice to spend with you, sister," she suggests wisely. "We can always remember our separation and parents for one more day. We have enough supplies. There's a town nearby if we run out."
"I think they would like that," Corona nods, smiling sadly.
Author's Note: Yes, this is quite sad. I thought that including their comrade's feelings over their 'disappearance' would be nice. I'm glad that I chose to. This piece is incredibly pleasing. I've found that I've been able to write with astounding ease. I love this piece. I hope that you have enjoyed reading my work. I thank you wholeheartedly for sparing the time to read my work. I give my sincerest apologies if you were dissatisfied in any way with my work.
