Sam, Sock, and Ben had been having trouble capturing an escaped soul. Every time they were close to capturing it, it would hastily escape or notice the three before they could even do anything. Always, in a blink of an eye, it would be gone. This was incredibly frustrating to Sam who had tried out every plan the three would come up with but nothing seemed to work. The only thing they could do was wait another day. On Monday morning, Sam had gotten up to get ready for work as he still thought about the events of yesterday. It wasn't is ideal way to spend his day on a Sunday but he hoped that work would take his mind off it. Only problem was, is that Sam knew work would always follow him wherever he went. As Sam parked his car and began walking inside The Work Bench, he heard a familiar voice from behind him. As he turned around, it was The Devil with his signature smile on his face. Sam already knew where this was heading and he just wanted to get it over with.
"What's the matter Sammy? I thought you'd be happy to see me." The Devil said.
"Not particular. Was hoping wouldn't see you this early." Sam replied.
"Well, that's not a very nice thing to say Sammy. I just thought I'd come to see you because I know you've been having a bit of trouble lately." The Devil replied.
"Why would you want to help?" Sam questioned.
"Oh Sammy, Sammy, Sammy. You know, it just hurts me to see you struggle like this." The Devil mockingly said.
"Cut it out and tell me what you really want." Sam replied, now annoyed.
"Well, I see we're Mr. Business today so I'll just get to the point. The soul you've been trying to capture isn't going to be coming out in the day time, during the day, he just can't seem to last long. It only feels comfortable in the night time." The Devil said.
Sam threw up his arms and turned around and just as he turned back, The Devil had once again disappeared. Sam was already used to this but headed inside The Work Bench. As he walked in, he heard another familiar yet irritated voice.
"Sam, you're twenty minutes late. I hope you have a reasonable excuse as to why you didn't show up on time?" Ted questioned.
"Yeah, I -" Sam had been cut off and was now in for a lecture.
"You know Sam, being responsible and showing up for work go hand in hand, you can't slack off your responsibilities because you think it might be okay, it's really not how the real world is. You have responsibilities and people, unfortunately myself included, have to rely on you to help and to come in on time. Sure it's no fun, but life is never fun. Next time, I expect you to be on time." Ted finished.
Sam could do nothing but nod his head. It was bad enough that his father and boss The Devil showed up but now he had to get a lecture from Ted as well. Back in the break room, Sock and Ben were arguing about how to capture the soul.
"Benjamin that is simply not going to work, you can't capture it that way." Sock stated.
"Well, what would you suggest? I haven't seen you come up with any plan." Ben said to him, a bit annoyed.
"Okay, here's the plan, we simply find out where it's hiding, block any and all exits, then boom! We got the soul." Sock said, smiling in triumph that his plan was better.
"That's what we've been doing Sock." Ben said to him.
Just as they were going to go over another plan, Sam had just opened the door and closed it before going to his locker. He looked exhausted and annoyed.
"Hey Sam, why do you look so tired?" Sock asked.
"Oh you know, just thinking about last night and to top it all off, both The Devil and Ted wanted to talk to me." Sam replied, sighing as he got what he needed before closing his locker door.
"So, we're trying to come up with a plan to catch the soul." Ben said.
"Don't bother, The Devil said that the soul comes out at night mostly and doesn't like the day time." Sam replied.
"Well what are we going to do? We can see any souls in the dark, it's nearly impossible." Ben said.
"Night vision goggles." Sock replied eagerly.
Later that day they got what they would need and drove to the location where the soul would be at, only this time, it was at night. They heard rustling in the bushes as they waited out side of the car. Hours passed before they finally saw something moving throughout the wooded area. They quickly ran towards it with Sam carrying the vessel in hand. Splitting in three different directions, finally managing to catch the vessel when Sock and Ben distracted it long enough for Sam to use the vessel on him.
"We'll have to return the vessel in tomorrow." Sam said.
"Looks like we really didn't need night vision goggles." Sock said.
"I don't know why we even needed them." Ben replied.
"Uh, because...they're awesome." Sock said.
"Come one guys, we'll turn the vessel in tomorrow and in the mean time, let's go to the bar." Sam replied to both of them to keep from another ridiculous fight.
At the bar, the guys were drinking as they talked about different things. One of the subjects that came up was Andi. To which Sam revealed that their relationship was on again and off again because she still felt something was evil inside of him.
"You know Sam, I kinda feel like Andi is putting all this on you when it's not your choice." Ben said to him.
"Well, I can't do anything about that. She's always saying I have a choice." He replied.
"What choice do you possibly have? The Devil owns both your souls." Sock said.
"I don't know guys, all I know is that tomorrow, it's not like it's all going away." Sam said to them.
The next morning, the three took the vessel into the DMV.
"Next!" Gladys called.
"Hey Gladys.." Sock said.
"Place the vessel on the mat." Gladys said, looking at the three with her usual expression.
"Bye Gladys." Sam said.
"Next!" She called, looking at the three as they walked away.
Sam, Sock, and Ben were free for the day. While Ben and Nina had a date planned, Sock who had not given Maggie a chance after their first encounter, had recently began talking to her and they had both agreed to hang out which Sock was excited for. This had left only Sam who had decided to just relax for the day and he no plans to go any where with anyone.
Sam fell back onto his bed and soon it wasn't long before his eyes started to close. He was happy he had Tuesday off which was rare but only because there needed to be repairs done and Ted, not wanting anyone to mess up the repairs had ordered everyone to go home. Everyone happily obliged and Ted was the only one there to make sure things were going perfectly.
The silence of the room was interrupted by the sound of ringing. It was his phone and Sam was surprised to see that Andi was calling him. Sam answered but it had felt a little weird talking to her again but Sam couldn't explain it.
"Hey, what's up?" Sam asked casually.
"Hey Sam I was just wondering if you wanted to do something later tonight? I was just bored and thought you might want to go out and do something." Andi replied.
"Um, yeah, sure. What did you have in mind?" Sam asked.
"Oh, I thought we could go see a movie and maybe get a bite to eat after." Andi replied.
"Yeah, okay, sounds good. I guess I'll meet you there at 7:30pm." Sam said.
"Yeah, that's fine. I guess I'll see you then..bye Sam" Andi replied to him.
"See you then, bye Andi." He said back.
There you go Sammy! A voice said.
Sam looked to see The Devil standing on the other side of the room with a smile.
"What do you want?" He asked.
"I just came to congratulate you on getting back with your girl for the 5th time." The Devil nonchalantly said.
"Well, it's not exactly a date and I doubt we're getting back together. Just friends hanging out." Sam replied.
"Just hang in there Sammy. I have a feeling things are going to change really soon." The Devil said, throwing a baseball at him.
Just as Sam caught it, The Devil was once again gone. Sam sighed before falling asleep.
As 7:30 rolled around, Sam had finished getting ready.
"Well what do you guys think?" Sam asked, showing Sock and Ben what he chose to wear.
"Don't you think it says you're trying to get Andi back?" Ben asked.
"What's wrong with it?" Sam asked.
"Samuel, it says you're desperate for her love again." Sock said, eating a sandwich.
"Nina what do you suggest?" Sam asked, turning towards the blonde.
"I actually think it looks quite nice. The jeans, shirt, and black jacket mixed with your shoes says you're not trying but putting in effort." Nina said to Sam who in turn was confused.
Sam had arrived early surprisingly as he didn't see Andi anywhere so decided to wait till she had shown up. He waited around the entrance and looked at his watch to see that it was now 7:45. Sam continued to wait until he felt a tap on his shoulder. He turned around expecting to be in the way of someone but when he turned around, he saw Andi. She was dressed in nothing too fancy but hot enough for Sam to want to make amends with her.
"Sorry I'm late, I had to go and put gas in my car and thought I would make it in time." She said.
"No, don't be sorry. I'm just glad we're going to hang out." He said to her.
Time passed as they sat together watching a newly released movie. Both were lucky enough to get tickets due to the line but they had just gotten the last two available for the movie. While eat popcorn and drinking her soda, Andi didn't notice Sam looking at her till she finally caught him with Sam feeling like he was bright red.
"I-I'm sorry, it's just I haven't seen you laugh in awhile." Sam said.
"No, it's okay, I'm having fun with you." She replied.
The movie ended and the two headed to dinner. Sam and Andi drove to her house to drop off her car while she had gotten into the passenger side of his car. It felt as if they were dating but they were now just exclusively friends. When they arrived and ordered, Sam couldn't help but think of The Devil's words saying I have a feeling things are going to change really soon. To him, it felt weird and awkward and when he was questioned by her about it, he knew he couldn't lie to her anymore and told her. She concluded that maybe they would be getting their souls back soon or that The Devil was playing a trick on him and he fell for it. While Sam agreed to this, it just didn't sit right with him.
Dinner was over and Sam had taken her home. The whole time they had been making small talk here and there but they didn't bring up what Sam brought up over dinner about The Devil. When they got to her house she told him not to worry too much about The Devil and she would always help him. While Sam drove home, he had immediately gone to bed and didn't do anything else. The next morning it would be business as usual.
The next morning, Sam was met with an unwelcoming surprise of his alarm and a vessel waiting for him on his desk with the information he needed. He groaned as the day was going to be long and tiring. Only thing he wondered was why The Devil didn't appear himself to teleport him like he usually did but knew he would eventually see him during the rest of the day.
"Well guys, let's go see if we can more about this escaped soul." Sam said to Sock and Ben.
The three proceeded to go look for the escaped soul and bring him back to Hell.
