Sam Winchester is very smart. He knows it, everyone knows it. He's borderline fucking brilliant, and he's not afraid to say it. Sam had taken classes in every subject you can think of and hated most of them. Deep down, no matter how hard he tried to be "normal", his mind kept wandering. 'Where's Dean? Where's Dad? What're they fighting, who are they saving?' and he couldn't help but want to be there with them, even though he tried to convince himself otherwise. Sam Winchester hated being smart.
Why then, was he thinking about some science course he had taken in college? Advanced Physics. Quantum Mechanics states that everything that can happen, does happen, in a parallel universe. 'And this is science?' Sam had thought. But now…now he couldn't help but think about it.
In a parallel universe, there were no demons. No things that went bump in the night. There were no children stolen away and no parents had to leave their kids alone.
In a parallel universe, Mom was still alive. Dad had never left to hunt and Sam and Dean's mom would bake cookies and grudgingly let them eat the dough, even though they would find out later that she had been planning to let them eat it the whole time.
In a parallel universe, so was Dad. He hadn't had to sacrifice himself to save Dean because Sam was too much of a fucking coward to go through life without his big brother.
In a parallel universe, Dean had had a normal childhood. He didn't have to play mother and father do Sam while their real father had been off hunting things that Sam didn't even know existed.
In a parallel universe, Dean had gone to college. He had had a girlfriend and married her and lived in a house with a goddamn white picket fence and 2.4 children and a golden lab.
In a parallel universe, Dean was alive. He hadn't followed Sam on some stupid martyr mission to kill the demon. He hadn't jumped in front of Sam. Or they hadn't even known each other. Maybe they weren't even brothers somewhere. Sam might be dead and Dean might be living with some rich-ass family in Bel-Air.
There are a thousand dimensions where Dean is alive.
Sam just wants him in this one.
