Remus Lupin had never much liked introducing himself to other people. It's not exactly easy to walk up to someone and say, "Hello, I am an insecure mess, and I also happen to be a werewolf. Who are you?"

Everyone always had some comment to make about his scars, or his unusual name, or the state of his robes. They all knew he was quiet, shy, and a bookworm, and apparently didn't want to interrupt him when he was reading, which happened to be often. But it was simply because nobody ever talked to him.

Everything changed when he met Sirius Black.

They were in their first year, both of them, and had just settled in their dormitory. The boy with long black hair, who seemed the outgoing type, had walked straight up to Remus and said, "my name's Sirius, what's yours?" No snide remarks, no sarcastic comments, just that one sentence that changed both boy's lives forever.

"Er- I'm Remus," he said awkwardly, as he wasn't used to introducing himself. "Just one question, why are you... Talking to me?"

The boy called Sirius smiled. "Well, it looks as if we'll be sharing a room for the next, I dunno, seven years, so I would do well to learn everyone's name, no?"

Remus smiled back, the first real smile he had managed all day.

"Yeah. Yeah, I guess so."
