Dinner Time
Because sometimes everything needs to slow down.
It's six PM in Japan. In the home of Usami (Usagi) Akihiko and Misaki Takahashi, everything is going peacefully. Misaki cooks dinner while Usagi sits on the couch, feet crossed and propped up on the coffee table, reading. They both learned early on that Usagi and kitchens don't mix well; besides, Misaki likes cooking. He likes knowing that no matter what he cooks, it will still be appreciated. Though, that doesn't mean he won't try to please him, not at all. Misaki glances up from his cooking to smile fondly at his lover. For a moment, he's tempted to scold him for putting his feet on the table; the urge fades quickly though. He enjoys the silence too much to get rid of it right now. He concentrates on the food again. He looks away just in time to miss Usagi's affectionate smile. The older man is also enjoying the silence. Enjoying the domestic quality of the rooms. Watching his lover soon proves to be able to hold his attention better than his book and he sets it down with a soft thump. The sound causes Misaki to look up. They exchange soft smiles. Both of their hearts flutter a little. Misaki's at being watched with such an expression. And Usagi's being one the receiving end such a loving look.
Soon the food is done and they sit down to eat together. Lost in their own thoughts, they eat. The clattering of their eating utensils and their breathing are the only sounds in the room. Misaki looks up at Usagi thoughtfully and, as if sensing his look, Usagi meets his gaze. Misaki's head falls to the side as though contemplating whether or not to voice his thoughts.
"You know I love you, right?" Usagi's eyes soften and he reaches across the table for his younger lover's hand.
"Yes. And I love you too." Blushing lightly now, Misaki goes back to eating his dinner. And Usagi goes back to eating his.
Their hands remain clasped on the table.
