In the country she had lied. In that time and place she had to pretend. But back in the TARDIS she felt all her emotions bubbling to the surface until finally she couldn't take it anymore. "I meant what I said," she stated suddenly and out of the blue while the Doctor was working at the consoles.

"What was that Martha?" he asked in a slightly disinterested tone.

"I meant what I said last night," Martha continued, her hands folded nervously in her lap.

"What you said?" the Doctor asked, continuing with his work.

"I hoped that you wouldn't remember," Martha stated nervously. "But you do."

"I'm sorry what?"

"I love you," Martha blurted out, causing the Doctor to look at her finally.

"So you said. But I—"

"I know that you don't feel the same," Martha interrupted as she stood to stand face to face with the Doctor. "And while I don't know if you'll ever be able to feel the same—"

"Wait a minute. What do you mean?" he asked in his usual tone.

"You can never forget her," Martha exclaimed, tears in her eyes.

"Rose—" he whispered as though the mere mention of her name haunted him, which it did.

"Yes Rose," Martha confirmed, the tears rolling down her cheeks now. "I know that I'm just some sorry replacement for her because you don't want to be alone and believe me while it's not the best situation that I find myself in, let me tell you Doctor I'm going to live with it for as long as I can."

"And why is that?" he asked in a quiet whisper.

"Like I said you're everything," Martha continued as she wiped away her tears. "You're everything to everyone…even me…and I don't care what anybody says but I'm not going to leave you on your own. Not now at least…."

"So you…."

"Loving someone and not having them love you back is hard," she stated sadly. "But as of right now I can deal with it and now that I've said it…well," Martha paused and gave the Doctor a half smile. "…I feel like I'll be able to handle it a lot better."

"So….?" He asked in a questioning sort of voice.

"So we continue," Martha assured. "Like we've always done."

The Doctor looked quite sad for a moment but then he smiled. "Right then."

And with that he turned back to the centre of the TARDIS and sent them onto a new adventure.
