Hey! So this is my second LOTR fanfic, so I'm still pretty new to writing this and just generally new to the whole fandom. Anyway, this fanfic is about Legolas, and most chapters will also include Elladan and Elrohir (in later chapters also Aragorn).

It will start with Legolas as a young elfling, and (eventually) lead up to when LOTR takes place. In this first chapter Legolas is the equivalent of about 7 human years (in terms of appearance and personality).

Enjoy!

Disclaimer: I sadly do not own LOTR. Everything (except my plot ideas) belong to Tolkien.

Chapter 1

Legolas was growing impatient. The young elfling, his father, and the royal guard, had been traveling for a while now, and they STILL hadn't reached Rivendell. Why they were even going there, he didn't know. When the young prince had asked, all he caught was something about needing help from an old friend.

"How much longer Ada?" the impatient elfling asked. Thranduil shook his head, a faint smile on his lips.

"We're nearly there ion nin. Don't forget, you asked to come." Legolas sighed.

"I know but its taking forever." At this comment, Thranduil laughed.

"You are immortal ion nin. Someday you will know the meaning of forever." The elven king wasn't planning on taking his youngest son with him on what was supposed to be a business trip, but the elfling pleaded with him. After thinking of whether or not he should allow his son to come, Thranduil gave in. All of his other children had left Mirkwood before, but his youngest had not. He thought that this trip would prove a nice change.

A few minutes had passed before the young prince suddenly perked up. "I hear water!" he said excitedly, knowing that must mean they were very close. The king nodded. "See? I told you we were almost there."

As they came to the entrance of Rivendell, Legolas looked around him in awe. Mirkwood was nice enough, but he had never seen anything like this before. It was beautiful. He liked the way their structures were built on the foothills of the mountain, the river surrounding them. Ahead of Legolas, a tall elf with dark hair was waiting for them. The elf smiled as Thranduil went up to him, also smiling, though his was more faint.

"Na vedui," he said to the elven king. "At last."

Thranduil gave a nod of his head. "Gi suilon. I greet you. I apologise for our lateness. The pass we were going to take was blocked off, so we had to find different one."

The dark haired elf- who Legolas later learned was Lord Elrond- shook his head, still smiling. "No worries. I'm just glad you got here safely. Le maer? Are you well?"

"Yes, thank you. I hope you are also well," Thranduil replied. He then beckoned for Legolas to come up. The elfling did, but a little nervously. "May I present to you my youngest son, Prince Legolas."

Elrond smiled at the young prince in front of him. "Welcome Legolas," he said before looking back at the king. "My sons are on a hunting trip, but should be back shortly. I will introduce them to you then." The elf- lord cleared his throat. "Anyway, I will show you to your rooms and allow you to get freshened up before we talk about the plans."

Legolas was looking at Elrond as he spoke, wondering what the plans were he spoke of, but in his young mind, he didn't care that much.

After they changed into clothes that weren't travel worn, and they had a bit to eat, Thranduil went off with Elrond. Before they did though, the elf-lord told Legolas he could wander in the gardens, so that's what the young prince did. He always loved gardens, which made sense since he was an elf, but especially because he was a wood elf. That being said, the trees were always his favorite, though he also loved the beautiful varieties of flowers. He was leaning down to look closer at a purple flower he rather liked, when he heard two different, yet similar voices ring throughout the garden.

"Pe- charnas! Idiot! If it wasn't for you, we could have stayed out hunting longer!"

"My fault? You're the one who had to trip and break his wrist!"

"Yes but you were the one who tripped me!"

Legolas looked up. Who were those two people and what were they arguing about? It was kind of annoying. He was enjoying the peace of the garden. He didn't say anything though.

"-Adar's going to keep you in the healing ward for a while, you know. Remember that one time when we both came home with all those injuries? He said that if we ever got hurt gain, he was keeping us in for a whole month!"

"No. If anything he's going to lock you up so you can't break anyone else's wrist. What made you think tripping me while I was carrying a loaded bow was a good idea?"

"But the arrow didn't harm you. The fact that you were carrying your bow made no difference."

"You never think anything through Elrohir! Just you wait, when I-"

Legolas stood up out of curiosity, and hid behind a tree, looking at the two elves who were bickering in the garden. Like Lord Elrond, they both were tall and had dark hair. They also looked identical. They stopped though, seeing Legolas peering out from behind a large tree. They looked at each other and shrugged, before walking over to the elfing. Legolas widened his eyes when he saw them approach. They were probably going to yell at him for eavesdropping or something. He bit his lip nervously as he came out from behind the tree. "I'm sorry, I-" he began to say.

The elf on his right interrupted him. The elfling noticed ho he was clutching his wrist. "Hello. What' your name little elfling?" he asked. "I'm Elladan and this here is Elrohir," he said, gesturing to his brother. The prince looked at him in confusion. So they weren't mad?

"I..I'm Legolas.." he said after a moment. Elrohir tapped his chin. "Legolas huh? That sounds familiar…" He paused before nodding. "Ah, that's right. Prince Legolas of Mirkwood, isn't it? Our father told us you were coming."

Legolas gave a nod, but didn't say anything more. The twins grinned at each other. "Well little princeling," Elladan said, still clutching his wrist. "Glad to meet you. Welcome to Rivendell!" Elrohir then knelt on the ground so he was closer to Legolas' height.

"So you like the garden? It's pretty neat, don't you think?" Legolas nodded. "Yeah.. I especially like the trees," he said with a little more confidence this time. Elrohir smiled.

"Tree's are amazing. Want to see something?" Legolas hesitated for a second before nodding. Elrohir stood back up. "Follow me," he said as he and Elladan started walking. The curious little wood-elf followed them, wondering what it was they were going to see.

A/N: So yeah, that was the introduction to my new fanfic! Writing this way is pretty new to me, since most of my stories are just a collection of oneshots other than a full fledged story. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this first chapter! It took me a while to write this, so I would very much appreciate anyone who commented, whether for some criticism or compliments. Also, any suggestions for further chapters are also welcomed! Also, I was wondering: for those of you who also write LOTR fanfic, what Elvish dictionary do you use? I need to find a good one.

Thanks! Until next time!
