Chapter one:

Legolas smiled as he looked up at the crystal blue sky, a calm breeze tugging at his golden hair. He couldn't wait to visit Aragorn and the twins in Rivendell after a few lonely visit-less months. He sat atop Midnight, a young horse named after his dark coat and serious personality. Legolas had been riding for a couple of days, though excited to see his friends there was no rush and he didn't mind relaxing and taking in the sites.

The elven prince had a easy journey so far, with no disruptions, and he planned to get to Rivendell soon if he continued at this pace.

Legolas stopped for a moment to eat, taking out his Lembas and leaving Midnight to graze on grass for a moment. He was resting his back against a tree, listening to the trees pleasured whispers at having a wood elf near it when he heard a panicked whinny from his horse.

Legolas turned his head to where his horse stood not far away. Midnights ears were down and she was pawning the ground with her hooves. Pricking his own ears, Legolas made his way over to his beloved horse to sooth her with gracious elven words. He whispered into her ears, relax, be calm mellon-nin. The horse seemed to relax but still kept her head up attentively listening for any sounds of danger.

Legolas drew his bow, expecting nothing but an animal to be close by. He looked into the small forest up ahead and saw that birds and animals were fleeing desperate to be rid of what ever was bothering them. Legolas felt the trees fear and knew there was some further danger than just a large animal.

The prince crept into the forest making barely any sound due to elven stealth, alert for any danger or possible threats. Midnight trotted into the forest, loyaly following her master. No, Midnight, Legolas whispered in elvish, go over there, he said pointing to a small thicket, say safe and only come out if I tell you to. Midnight reluctantly, yet obidently followed Legolas's order and walked over to the small thicket.

Legolas, now free of his horse ran deeper into the forest his ears picking up a noise. A huge group of orcs made their way through the forest, yelling and stomping, they were easy to hear, especially for an elf.

"The elf is close," the orc who seemed to be the leader said confidently.

"Then we can eat 'im right?" questioned a smaller orc.

"No, you idiot," the leader said smacking him on the head, "first we can have some fun with 'im, and get the information we need, then we can eat 'im. If you try to eat him I'll slit your throat!"

"Owwww, okay, okay," complained the smaller one.

Legolas held his breath, not daring to exhale. He needed to get back to Midnight and get to Rivendell as fast as possible, but the orcs were blocking his path. The prince ran as fast and quiet as possible ahead of the orcs to get to Midnight.

Keeping his eyes on the orcs Legolas spread up his pace. It was then he noticed a huge orc looming in front of him.
