Kiss Goodbye

The 7D stood by as their queen lay on her bed. They silently watched her breathe. That was somehting they had always taken for granted.
Queen Delightful was dying.
The woman's blonde hair had turned grey, and her movements got slower. She had never lost her chipper attitude, though. Age couldn't steal that.
Age wasn't something dwarves thought about much. Some dwarves lived into their thousands. Growing old had never been a problem...until it was a problem for their queen.
The group stood to the side in the room and sobbed. The news had hit them hard. One dwarf, especially.
Bashful was hiccuping as he tugged on his tall hat. Tears still poured from his eyes.
Her life was too short. What would he do without her? Truth was, Bashful had fallen for a girl who would die hundreds of years before him.
The shy dwarf took a deep breath and stepped forward. He shakily lifted his chubby self onto her bed.
Queen Delightful looked up at him with those beautiful blue eyes. The eyes he would never see again.
Bashful pressed his lips to the queen's. Warmth soared through his small body.
The dwarf removed his lips. With his forehead still in contact with Delightful's, he whispered. "I had to do that at least once," he choked.
The queen weakly smiled and touched Bashful's hand. "I'm glad you did."
Minutes later, the kind queen died peacefully. But when she left, she unwillingly took Bashful's broken heart with her.
