Disclaimer: I do not own The Chronicles of Narnia or any of their characters, as they all belong to C.S.Lewis

A/N: I was reading through a few C.S.Lewis fics, and felt like writing this, so here it is:

Response

Back in England, before the war, Edmund had not been popular. He had been bullied at school, and was a constant victim of teachers and students alike. His mother was never impressed with the grades he recieved - afterall, next to Peter and Susans, they were exactly the same - and his father seemed to be the only one who was interested in what he had to say.

He loved his father very much, but the man always seemed to treat him like a little child. Edmund disliked it, but he craved the attention.

Peter was always trying to give him advice - even when he didn't need it. Susan was always trying to change him - even though he liked who he was. Lucy always acted like she was on the same level as he was - and she showed no respect for their age difference.

So, Edmund decided to react.

Only, his reaction didn't achieve the results he wanted.

His teachers sneered at his efforts to act more important, and the other students beat him harder when he tried to act above them. His mother only seemed to look disappointed, and sighed every time he came home with a letter from school, stating that he had started another fight - even though his protests to only defending himself were unheard.

His brother always seemed to get mad, in that calm and infruiating way of his. Susan always poked at his new 'nature', and tried to 'direct' him away from 'going down that path'. Lucy only shook her head - which really angered him, as she was acting older now.

But when Edmund entered Narnia, and became King Edmund the Just, he thought that things might change.

Not much did though.

Narnian's whispered behind his back, and named him the traitor he had mistakenly been. They never came right out and said or did things, but it hurt the same as it would a pysical blow. His tutors in polictics, and matters of the Law, barely listened to his opinions except when he was speaking in front of the Court of Justice - where he was in command. His people barely liked him and only followed his orders, knowing full well that he was nearly always right - but still remained unpopular.

Peter was still trying to give advice where it wasn't needed. Susan still tried to change him - except now it was in matters of love. Lucy was still acting like she was his age - except now, she had every right as a much loved Queen.

No, not much had changed. Only his method of dealing with it all had.

Before, he had acted higher, mighter and nastier.

Now, he listened, acted calmer, better and in a just manner.

When addressing someone who was inadvertedly insulting him, he only smiled lightly, and admitted his faults politely - quietly - before moving along with the more important matters of running the Justice System. When he spoke with his teachers, he answered when needed, and took to listening over trying to out-wit them. His mood remained calm, collected and honourable. Barely anyone could anger him any more - nor could they out-do him in any topic of discussion.

Edmund now listened intently to Peter, before making his own judgements - still rarely following the older brothers advice. He expertly declined Susan's advances on trying to make his more social with women, without insulting his older sister - he was fifteen afterall, women were not on his agenda quite yet. He spoke to Lucy as a younger sister still, but politely - through listening to her, he managed to get her to back down her position slightly, so he was deffinately the older one.

Well, maybe some things had changed in his life since coming to Narnia.
