Emily had returned from taking passengers on the Black Loch Route. She had enjoyed her run and as the passengers left the coaches, she was glad to see that everyone had enjoyed themselves too.
Nearby, she heard James talking to Henry about the events of his day. Henry looked uninterested, for the large part.
"...why I even told Emily a rumour that I don't believe!" Scoffed the red engine.
"What did you tell her, James?" Asked the railway's number 3.
I told her about the monster in the Black Loch. James responded. But I don't believe a word of it!"
"Good for you James!" Approved Henry. "Those superstitious stories should never be in an engine's funnel anyways! Good riddance!"
But Emily was hit by a sudden thought.
'Wait, if James doesn't believe the rumour, then why did he tell me about it? Maybe he made it up to scare me.' She thought 'I'll ask.'
She puffed over to James.
"Excuse me James?"
"What Emily?"
"I was wondering about that story you told me about the monster of the Black Loch. Did you make it up?"
"No!" James Scowled at her. "If you must know, I was at the Coaling Plant a couple of weeks ago and I overheard Donald and Douglas talking about it! Happy now?"
"There's no need to be so rude James!" Scolded a familiar voice.
"Hello Edward!" Tooted Emily
"Hello there Emily! Don't mind me- I'm just taking some trucks to the Waste Dump." Edward informed.
"I was wondering what the smell was!" Huffed James.
"James, I couldn't but overhear about what you said about the monster of Black Loch. Am I correct in believing that you know where Donald and Douglas came from?"
The red engine glared daggers at his friend.
"Yes." He huffed.
"Good. Well, where they're from, they have a legend called the Loch Ness Monster. It's a famous Scottish myth that they like to tell other people. It's only a story."
"What!? You mean it's just fiction that they spread!?"
"Essentially yes." Said Edward.
"I thought you didn't believe in it though James!" Teased Emily "You shouldn't have 'superstitious stories' in your funnel!"
James just blew his whistle angrily and huffed away.
Edward and Emily looked at one another and then they burst out laughing.
