Echoes

Got Wizard yesterday, and it showed the cover for AXM by Warren Ellis. I won't spoil anything by telling you who wasn't on the cover, but the characters in the story were. Not everyone who was on that cover is in this story. No, still don't own them.

Home. It was such a simple word. Kitty sighed as she looked at the mansion. The mission on Breakworld and the mad dash home to head off the havoc of the power lords had taken their tolls, on everyone. Hisako trudged toward the mansion, they really needed to come up with a better code name for her. Kitty shook her head.

Emma looked at Kitty, Peter's arm firmly wound round Kitty's waist, "Kitty, Peter, could you make your living arrangements a little more formal? I'd like to free up a room for a new teacher."

"Did she just ask us to move in together?" Kitty asked. Peter nodded his head. "Tomorrow," she murmured, "I'm just too tired today."

They spent the next few hours re-establishing a routine with the students. The other teachers had managed to keep things going, but they were harried and ready to have the rest of their staff back. That night Kitty and Peter were so tired they showered together just to make sure the other didn't fall asleep. A losing proposition as they fell into bed without benefit of anything but the covers to protect them from the cold.

And as Kitty put it, "Not tonight, honey, we're just too tired."

Late that night as the moonlight came in the window, Peter awoke. Kitty had curled up on his chest oblivious to their guest. Logan stood at the end of their bed. Peter gave him an odd look, not really sure what was going on. Logan looked at both of them, his expression unreadable. He suddenly sighed and gave the other man a smile, "Be happy," he said as he walked quietly out of the room.

Peter never told Kitty that he had been there.

This is an echo of what happened in AXM #1.
