It was New Year's Eve and night shift had off. Sara didn't have any parties to go to so she decided she better go finish the paperwork that had been piling up on her desk. She was now walking down the hallway of the lab her attention was on the file she was reading not on where she was going.
Then all of a sudden she crashed into someone he files fell to the ground and scattered. She knelt down and began to pick them up. Muttering apologies to whoever she had run into.
"Sara, What are you doing here, it's New Year's Eve," Grissom said.
Sara looked up and saw Grissom next to her helping her pick up files. "I know but I had nowhere to go, and I had paperwork to finish." She said feeling even more embarrassed because it was Grissom she'd run into. They hadn't been on the best terms lately. Not since she'd asked him out for something to eat and he had flatly turned her down.
Grissom handed Sara the rest of her files. "Well I'm going to go finish these," Sara said turning to walk away.
"Um Sara," She turned her head, "Will you help me with an experiment I'm working on." He finished.
Sara hesitated, was this a peace offering or did he just need help with whatever experiment he was working on. "Sure," she said following him.
A few minuets later she was standing next to a huge tank of water. Grissom had explained it to her but she still didn't understand, It had something to do with the affect of gravity on something or other. She wasn't exactly sure what she was here for either.
Sara turned on the radio, it was the new years countdown. There were five minuets left. She watched Grissom work. "Sara could you hand me a wrench?" She looked around her until she located the tool he was asking for.
She couldn't help but giggle when she looked at Grissom. He was up on a ladder struggling to loosen a valve about a foot above his head. Three minuets left.
"New year's eve is a nice holiday," Grissom said looking at Sara. "Get rid of the old and start new."
Ten.
Nine.
The pair walked closer to each other.
Eight.
"Yea it is, starting over" Sara mused.
Seven.
Six.
They leaned closer to each other.
Five.
Four.
Sara's breath caught in her throat, and Grissom wondered if this was the right idea.
Three.
Two.
They were less than and inch apart.
One. Crack.
Just as they were about to kiss the valve on the tank broke showering them with water. They stood soaking wet a few feet apart.
"I'm going to go, uh, dry off." Sara said grateful for and excuse to leave.
"Sara wait," Grissom said closing the gap between them, took her into his arms, and kissed her. When they broke apart Sara's eyes were big, and Grissom smiled.
"Happy new year," he said awkwardly breaking the silence.
