Summer Break
(Okay hello there again. I sent my friend the original chapters and she said they weren't that great. Then again, I wrote those when I was like 11 or something... So I've returned with better writing than before! Enjoy.)
My name's Jordyn. I'm 20 years old, just a little bit over 5'5", I have long brown hair, and two years ago, I finished college with a major in English. I'm originally from Arkansas, so the transition was a little bit difficult. Just this year, I moved into this apartment complex. Oh, and I forgot to mention a crucial detail to this story. I'm a huge fan of CaptainSparklez.
My apartment is between the two loudest people on Earth. I haven't bothered to find out their names because I'm too lazy. One day, the first of summer break, my neighbors were being especially loud, so I went for a walk around the complex. When I returned, there was a note on my door.
'Miss Sarah Smith has required Jordyn Johnson's presence at her party.'
I ripped the note off of the door and went inside my apartment, debating whether or not I should go. My neighbors were still being so loud that I couldn't think. I had half a mind to yell at them, 'SHUT UP', but once again, I was too lazy. Finally, I couldn't take it anymore and I decided to go to the party. Sarah was the prissiest and richest girl in the complex. As one would imagine, those two things were not a good combination. Her family owned the entire complex and they could possibly remove me without a moment's notice. Everybody in the family even had their own apartment. That family needed some help. The elevator reached the top floor and I got out. I listened for the room that had the most noise, but none came from any room. Luckily, the first door I tried was hers. I looked inside, super pissed that she had 'required my presence' and hadn't even bothered to say which door was hers. A group of girls sat in front of the door surrounding Sarah.
Ugh, it's just an attempt to get me into her clique… I rolled my eyes and left, closing the door. I heard the door open again and footsteps behind me, but I was already at the elevator. The doors opened and closed before I could discern who the person was. I hit the first floor button because I had better things to do than become one of her groupies. Sarah had taken my 'friend' and now she wanted me, only because I looked good. No, seriously. That's what she told me. Downstairs, the Annual Summer Festival was happening. I'd been told the festival was always boring, but I needed some time when my neighbors weren't constantly making a racket. When the elevator doors opened, I saw a huge crowd. I stood next to a guy who had a beanie on and crossed my arms. I leaned over and asked,
"What's this crowd for?" He shrugged and I stood on my tiptoes; I couldn't see a thing. I rolled my eyes, walked around the group and stood off to the side. I sighed because the thing that was causing this mass of people was a stupid magic trick. I shook my head and left. I got to the elevator and the doors opened. The guy with a beanie ran towards the doors, yelling 'WAIT!' with his arm out. But the doors were already closing. I shrugged and made an apologetic face. The last thing I saw before the doors closed was his crestfallen face. I punched the 4 button and waited as the elevator rose. I got off and headed towards my apartment. I unlocked the door and walked in, greeting my fluffy cat, Leopatrick. I paused mid-step and listened for a second. Everything was quiet. My neighbors weren't home. Yes! They must have been at the stupid carnival. I went into my bedroom and grabbed my favorite book so far, Wolves, Boys, and Other Things That Might Kill Me. I laid down on the couch, turned on my stereo, which was currently playing one of my favorite songs by The Killers, Bones, opened my book and began reading. I could hear somebody yelling the lyrics in the corridor and I rolled my eyes. It was most likely my neighbor, but it could be anybody. I heard a door slam and sighed. Looks like at least one of my loud neighbors have returned. Great. Just great. I slammed my book shut, annoyed. I stopped for a second and realized something. The guy with the beanie that I'd met downstairs quite resembled CaptainSparklez, my absolute favorite YouTuber. Jordan was so adorable. I resumed my anger and threw my book onto the couch. I was still pissed from the encounter with Sarah. I did not need any more pissing-off. I turned off my stereo and locked my door. I knocked on the door to my right and it opened. I retreated my fist cautiously and set it at my side. My neighbor's face was revealed. I couldn't stay pissed now! Oh jeez.
"Oh, hey! You're that girl from downstairs who asked me about that stupid magic show and didn't hold the elevator door for me." If I had made the connection earlier, I might have…
"Oh yeah! Look, I'm so sorry. I just came to ask if… if you…uh…" He laughed.
"Forgot what you were going to say there, neighbor?" Crap…
"Huh- Oh yeah. Sorry about that. Lost my train of thought for a second there. I'm Jordyn. That's Jordyn with a 'y'." I practically shoved my hand in his face. He shook it and kind of looked around awkwardly.
"Huh, what a coincidence. My name is Jordan too. Except with an 'a'," Yeah, I already knew that... "You-uh-want to come in? My friends are over and you wouldn't be intruding… I think my friends would quite like to meet you." Jordan was inviting me in to meet Mark and Nick? WHAT. I nodded, speechless. How was I so calm? I shuffled in and closed the door behind me.
"JORDAAAAANNNNN. WHO IS IT?" came from the living room. I chuckled a bit and waved as Jordan moved out of the way.
"As I explained to Jordan, I'm Jordyn. That's Jordyn with a 'y'." Mark nodded and Nick just stared. He leaned over and whispered something in Mark's ear. I looked at them confusedly and Jordan came to my rescue.
"AHEM… Anyways… Jordyn, this is Mark and Nick." I nodded in acknowledgement, leaned over and shook their hands.
"Nice to meet you." Mark scooted further down on the couch and Nick took the chair. I sat on the couch next to Mark and Jordan sat beside me.
"So, Jordyn, what do you like to do?" I grinned, this would be my time to shove in a little somethin'-somethin' about Minecraft...
"I like to read, draw, play Minecraft, and jog and stuff and things… Yeah." Mark chuckled and elbowed Jordan in the side.
"Sounds like you two would be a perfect match. Eh? Eh?" Jordan frowned and looked over at Mark. I could see a little bit of red inching up his neck. He folded his arms and looked forward. I could have sworn I'd heard a mumble consisting of 'Bitch'. Mark, Nick and I all snickered at Jordan as he sat there festering.
We all talked for a while longer, until I decided that I'd worn out my stay. I got up and said,
"It was nice meeting you boys, but I have a few things to do back at my place, so I'll be off now," It was time to put on what I call Don't Let The Captain Know You're A Fan, or DLCKYF (pronounced: dul-se-kif) for kinda-short. "It was great to meet y'all! Maybe we can do this again, and actually do something productive besides get to know each other." Yes. Nailed it. Nick advanced towards me with his arms outstretched, preparing for a hug. I stood there awkwardly for a millisecond and returned the super-awkward hug. He patted me on the back and we split apart. Mark reached out a hand for a shake and a 'bro hug' (even though I was clearly not a guy). And then there was Jordan, who just kinda stood there and waved goodbye. I thought about shoving my hand in his face for the second time that day, but I gave up on that idea quickly. So I decided to go with the snap and wink maneuver. I said goodbye and started walking out the door. Just before I reached it, though, I turned halfway, formed my hand into a gun, clicked my tongue, winked, and said,
"See ya later neighbor." And then I closed the door on what was sure to be the most awkward neighbor-ship (neighbor and friendship mashed together) ever.
