"I have the data you want."
"Well?"
"Before I give you the name, what about my plan to test out my new Super Delux 3000 Drink and to try out the new practice strategy during practice today…"
"Why? You don't trust me to keep up my end of the bargain?"
"Of course not."
"I wanted to be certain that you would do it."
"I have spoken to Coach Ryuuzaki already and she is agreeable."
"Impressive. You are almost as good as Fuji when it comes to hatching plots."
"The name?"
"Oh yes. This is the person who started the rumour."
No one could figure out what exactly happened to Horio during that practice session.
Fuji said that perhaps Horio had fainted from exhaustion after running a hundred rounds for talking too loudly and not concentrating in practice.
However, Momoshiro claimed that Horio had turned blue before fainting dead away after taking a big gulp of water from his water-bottle. The bottle was never found.
Kikumaru, claimed to have seen a mysterious tennis ball flying at high speeds, hit Horio hard on his head. The ball was later seen to have bounced back to the tennis court where Tezuka and Oishi had been practicing.
Tezuka had no comment or expression when asked regarding Kikumaru's comments.
Oishi shook his head and stated that he did not see anything strange.
Ryoma could not be bothered to give any comment and simply shrugged when asked to speculate.
Kaidoh had been busy practicing with Kawamura Takashi. Inui was busy supervising Kaidoh and Kawamura. None of them remember seeing anything out of the ordinary on that day.
Coach Ryuuzaki said that it was an unfortunate accident and that the entire Seigaku tennis team wished Horio would get well soon.
"You are getting better," Fuji commented to Tezuka outside his locker.
"Getting better at what?" Tezuka asked impassively while packing his bag.
"Plotting," Fuji smiled, his blue eyes twinkling with amusement, "The hundred rounds were subtle and the switching of water bottles was not bad but the tennis ball was too obvious. Everyone knows about your Tezuka zone. However, you're still not as good as me. I wouldn't have had people suspecting me at all."
There was complete silence. Fuji waited patiently while Tezuka remained expressionless.
"What a coincidence. Inui said the exact same thing to me a few days ago," Tezuka finally replied. He swung his bag over his shoulder and glanced at Fuji, who was suddenly a lot closer to him.
"Thank you," Fuji smiled and shifted right into Tezuka's space.
Tezuka felt, rather than saw, Fuji brushing soft lips against the corner of his mouth. Fuji leaned back, his lips curved up in a smile. Then he turned and walked away. Tezuka caught a whiff of lemon mint as Fuji left the changing room.
"You're welcome."
