Unlikely Friends

Disclaimer: Do I really have to say it?

Zero's head sprang off the cushions with a snap as his nap was abruptly cut short. He glanced around, then, determining his friend had left her perch by the windowsill, he leaped off the ground and bounded through the door.

Racing through the darkened corridors, the youngling searched for the slightest trace of his "sister". He was absolutely certain Yuuki had gotten in trouble again! If only he could find her…

Zero skidded around a corner and barely managed to avoid crashing into a curfew-breaking student. He ignored the exclaimed "Hey!!" tossed his way and continued on in his frantic search.

Finally, the silver-haired orphan's sensitive nose picked up faint traces of Yuuki's scent. He followed the invisible trail through the grounds, stopping occasionally when her scent became weak.

After what felt like hours of searching (but was actually ten minutes), Zero heard frightened whimpers coming from the edge of the forest. He scoured the grounds, and there! Yuuki was… in a tree?!

Somehow, his beloved friend had gotten herself up into the branches and was currently attempting to hide behind some large leaves.

"Yuuki? Yuuki!" he called.

The smaller of the two cautiously poked her head out. She glanced from Zero to the ground several times.

Yuuki shrieked suddenly, diving back behind the leaves.

"Yuuki…?"

Realization dawned on Zero as he made his way over to the spot Yuuki had been looking at.

'A snake? She's hiding from a snake?' he thought in bemusement.

Zero glared at the offending creature unwaveringly as it reared it's scaly head and hissed at him. He charged at it, baring and snapping sharp teeth in an attempt to scared the snake away.

The slimy reptile gave him one last cold look, then slithered away.

Zero glanced up into the canopy of leaves above him.

"Yuuki? You can come down now."

Yuuki shuffled around on the tree branch, but before she could safely leap down to the ground, she slipped and tumbled off.

Zero rolled his eyes. "Figures…" Lunging for her, he caught Yuuki right before she hit the muddy grass. She sighed contentedly, and Zero shook his head amusedly. Looks like he'd be carrying her home…

Chairman Cross leaned against the wooden doorframe of his living room. He smiled softly as he watched his two "children" snuggle happily in front of the dimly glowing fireplace. He had to admit, when he first brought Zero home, he was worried he would fight with his little Yuuki. But luckily, his fears were completely unfounded. From the moment Yuuki saw Zero, the two had been inseperable.

Kaien smirked.

And Touga said a dog and a cat couldn't get along…

A/N: This is weird… 0.0

I was watching my dog (named Zero :D) and my friend's cat (named Yuuki :D) snuggle while it rained outside, and that's where the idea came from! ^^

(Yes, we're obsessed, is that a problem? XD)

*hides* Sorry, it's dorky, and NOT my best writing. ^^;;

Well? Review now!
