"Tex, follow behind me," Hawk ordered from over her shoulder as she flawlessly sprinted her way past a mine-field of sentry bombs, and left his bulky, kneeling figure in the dust.
"Hold on a sec," Tex called to her, albeit a bit agitated. "I gotta disarm this."
Having spent more than half their mission time on navigating their way through bombs and trip-wires, Hawk was starting to get a little impatient. If it had just been her sent on this mission, she thought, and not the two of them, the objective would've already been complete.
"Now, Tex." She said through gritted teeth. "I mean it. Bratton expects this mission to be over and done with in less than 10 minutes. Do you think we have time to waste?"
A small smirk spread across his face.
If he said that he didn't like Hawk's fieriness, he'd be lying.
Sure, he'd been skeptical at first with the thought of recruiting a female as part of the team. But he whether he admitted it or not, he soon found her presence to be liked.
He couldn't say that she was all that agreeable at times, but he couldn't say that she was the biggest pain in his neck either.
She was just kinda...bossy at times, that was all.
Tex sighed to himself as he rose to his feet.
Dealing with Hawk was like disarming a sentry bomb; things would go much smoother if you could just snip a few wires and be done with it. But it was definitely more rewarding to take your time to try and figure out how it worked than cutting all the wires attached and risk having it blow up in your face.
So when Hawk ordered him to pick up the pace, Tex couldn't help but oblige, because he knew that if he followed her orders now, as opposed to when the mission was long over, it would be far more rewarding for him afterwards.
Who knew, maybe she'd actually feel like striking up a conversation with him later on?
"Tex!" The fiery red-head screeched into his com-link at his moment's delay.
Tex winced, a hand quickly shooting up to his ear, where the pesky microscopic com-link was located.
"Hold your horses, I'm coming!"
Eh, a guy could dream...
