Fireflies

Patamon was walking, holding Gatomon's hand.

"Ok...now, stop." He told her.

"Ok Patamon, can you please tell me where we are now?" she asked whilst reaching out, trying to feel her surroundings.

"Oh sorry, I forgot." he apoligised and removed the blindfold from her eyes.

"Much better." Gatomon muttered, rubbing her eyes. "Where are we, Patamon?"

"Um...well, this is a special place to me Gatomon, and I wanted to share it...with you." Patamon answered

"Oh, well...what is so special about it?" she asked him.

"I don't know. It's always quiet and peaceful here, I guess I can gather my thoughts when I come to this place." Patamon told her whilst staring at the night sky.

"What do you mean?" Gatomon asked him.

"I'm sorry Gatomon, I can't tell you..." Patamon started.

Gatomon looked hurt. Patamon shared everything with her...but this time, he didn't trust her enough.

"...but I can show you." He finished.

"Huh?" she wondered.

"Come over here." He gestured towards a river-bank.

"Umm...ok." Gatomon replied, unsure what to expect.

"Watch this." He instructed her.

He bent down, picked up a smooth pebble and skipped it across the water as hard as he could.

Something moved in the reeds and rose up, floating above the waters surface.

"Whoa..." Gatomon said in awe.

Above the water's surface were hundreds of bright and shining fireflies, disturbed by Patamon's skipping Stone.

The-they're beautiful." She stated.

"You're beautiful." Patamon corrected her.

Patamon took Gatomon's hand in his own and kissed her softly on the lips.

"I love you Gatomon, and I wanted to share my favourite place with you." Patamon told her.

"Oh, Patamon." she sniffled and hugged him. "This is amazing."

"Look at them Gatomon, what do you see?" he asked.

"Fireflies floating in the night sky." She answered. "What do you see?"

"Well...I see the night sky as the darkness of the world and the fireflies represent the hope the world has." Patamon told her.

He turned around to look at the quiet Gatomon, surprised by his answer.

"What?" he asked.

"N-Nothing...I just didn't know you thought about things like that." She replied.

"Oh, well I do." Patamon said and turned away from her, looking at the fireflies.

Gatomon stayed quiet, wanting to hear more.

"There is something else..." he muttered.

"Huh? Gatomon wondered. "What is it?"

"I also realised what love is whilst being here." Patamon told her.

"Well, what is it?" Gatomon asked, sounding hopeful.

"You." He replied.

"Eh?" The cat was clearly taken aback by his answer.

"That's right Gatomon. I believe that love is you...because, you are everything that I love and care for in this world, well these worlds." He told her.

"Pata...mon. Y-you really th-think that w-way about m-m-me?" Gatomon stuttered.

"Yes Gatomon, and I want the whole world to know it." Patamon stated.

"Pata..." Gatomon said with tears in her eyes. "You're s-so s-sweet." She sobbed.

"Come here, Gatomon." Patamon said and hugged her.

"I dont ever want to see you hurt or sad. I want to make you happy for the rest of your life...always and forever." He stated.

Gatomon sniffled and looked into her lover's eyes. "Patamon, you're so sweet. I love you so much" She muttered and kissed him.

"I love you more." He teased her after they had stopped.

"Thank you Patamon." The cat muttered.

"For what?" her lover asked.

"For showing me this place." She told him.

"Anything for you Gatomon." Patamon replied.

They sat on the river-bank, paw in paw, and watched the fireflies dance in the night sky.
