If Things Were Perfect

By Any Unborn Child

He tried…he really did.

He had tried to save her, save her from the fate that she had resigned for herself.

Now…that fate had taken her. Taken her away…

From her family, from the world…

From him.

Why had this happened?

For some ritual?

For some scientific experiment?

For some things left unexplained?

He had seen it happen, but he still couldn't process it.

He, who had endured so much, couldn't process it.

But…nonetheless…it would be sad to see the day when he would be a "professional" in the grieving process.

Based on all that had happened to him, in his life, there were a lot of things that had been left unprocessed.

When he ever did process it all, if he ever could, he would probably have a nervous breakdown.

He remembered the words that came forth from his lips soon after Armony had…died…

What they contained…

What they pleaded…

What they wanted…

"…Is this it…Is this the end?"

He didn't want it to happen.

He didn't want any of it to happen.

To his pupil…his friend…his…his…

But…

It couldn't be avoided.

She was gone.

And there was nothing he could do about it.

In the end, a flower, her favorite, were all that was left.

It had grown out of his hand, as one last reminder of her affect in his life.

All that was left of his memory of her.

Symbols of her existence in his life.

To show that her spirit…her spirit was still alive…

In him.

But, if you die, then that's the end…

In the end, he let them go.

Just like that.

He had to.

Otherwise he wouldn't be able to move on.

Move on and do the best that he could.

Do the best he could to make his way.

And then…go.

He should have been used to the heartbreak, the unparalleled emotion that fell across his heart one too many times.

If things were perfect, he would have been.

But no.

No he wasn't.

He was just as vulnerable as everyone else.

No matter how much he wanted to think otherwise.
