Steven Universe is one of my favorite shows, I always watched it. But something didn't really...seem right to me.
Why rocks? out of anything, and it didnt make much sense aliens were earth rocks. This show was really surreal to me. Then after Lapis Lazuli was introduced, it struck me.
Steven was in a coma in a desert. The gems were based off his living friends.
I thought about it for a while and it makes sense, I mean, Gems could always regenerate if they were too hurt, something that could not be done in the desert when Steven's friends died, something humans can't do, and in the eyes of a child, would be a viable coping method due to them liking fantasy explainations for things in the real world. Though gems do not normally need to eat, representing Steven and his friend's burning desire to eat in the desert, though they could not.
Amethyst represented meth, which had caused similar things that Steven's dehydration had done. Amethyst is based off Steven's friend, Amy, who had died of starvation in the desert. Steven's coma world created Amethyst so that Amy could finally be happy, and eat.
Pearl represented his mother's friend, who was constantly trying to preserve supplies, and was a medical student named Priscilla. Pearl's over protectiveness was annoying in the desert, as she often did not let the others eat the food they had, insisting they slowly eat it to make it last. Pearl's protectiveness of Steven.
Garnet represents two gal pals during the trip, they were always together, and shared supplies, eventually Steven's friend named Rubey died after wandering off during a sandstorm. Steven's coma finally made them...happy in a way, they were always together now...
Lapis represented being free from the desert, innocence, greatfulness, and most of all, life, and water.
Jasper represents the desert itself, and it trying to stop all of them from getting water, such as her trapping Lapis Lazouli in the show.
Malachite represents the fight between the desert, and finding their way out of the desert, a song that fits them would be The Animal I have Become.
Fusion represents how they had to be pals or really close friends so they would be able to survive, and so they would be stronger.
Cracked Gems represent how over time in the desert, they slowly become broken, into pieces like a doll thats been thrown apart, you can sew if but you cant hide the scars...
