Chapter 1

Allan rounded the corner, and headed towards the castle. Will was standing there, waiting for him. "Will-" "Allan, can we talk?" They went into an alley and sat down opposite each other. At first neither of them spoke. Then they both began "Will I-" "Look Allan-" Allan looked up, and signalled for Will to go on.

"Allan, I will never understand your reasons for selling out the gang. Never. But I do know that deep down, you are a good man. But you can never come back to us. It's too late- no one trusts you now. But –" "Wait," Allan began. "I know. I've completely screwed up. But I want you to know I love you guys- I really am sorry for making such a terrible mistake. I never intended to hurt any of you, please believe me." After a short pause, Will replied "I do," then he patted Allan on the back, stood up and walked away.

Allan felt like he had the weight of the world on his shoulders. What had he done? He had been betrayed by others before, of course- not least by his own brother. But to Robin, a betrayal was unforgiveable- he had always commanded loyalty. He never had to deal with the type of rejection Allan had suffered. Still, he didn't blame Robin. Robin was a noble man- noble through both his birth and his actions. Allan was less than nothing, scum. He sighed and returned to the Castle to finish his duties.

When he arrived, he was shocked to find Marian- dressed as the nightwatchman – racing right past him and down the corridor. She was being chased by Gisbourne, who was screaming at her "I'm gonna kill you!! I'll unmask you and make you pay!" Allan leapt into action immediately. He knew he had to protect Marian. He turned and chased her, catching up quickly, as he was nearer than Gisbourne "Run into the next room, I'll tell Guy you've gone the other way!" he whispered urgently to her.

She did as he said. He hung back just in time for Gisbourne to glimpse him and hear him shouting "this way!" They ran around the castle for a bit but, unsurprisingly, they did not find the nightwatchman. "Arrrgh! I do NOT understand where he could have gone to. Why didn't you catch up to him?!" he demanded. "Well...I tripped didn't I? Remember?" Gisbournes mildly confused face gave Allan hope that he didn't remember Allan had been perfectly upright all evening.
