"Calixte..."

The Collector sighed. "My dear, your parents did this to ensure your future."

"I know. Don't you think I know that already?" I snapped brusquely. "I just-"

Tivan cut me off. "You are young and impulsive, Calixte. There is very little that you understand. You are 16, I am 5 billion. I know exactly what you're getting into, my beauty."

"But I don't even love you. How could I? I've barely just met you five minutes ago." I protested.

Tivan wasn't convinced. "You will learn to love me over time."

Unfortunately for me, my parents and Taneleer Tivan, otherwise known as the Collector had struck a bargain to an arranged marriage between me and Tivan. This so-called union was to merge my father's mining colony on Terra with Tivan's colony on Knowhere. The marriage was more about security and financial stability than love, obviously. My parents were certain that I would be safe in a marriage with Tivan because not only was he wealthy, but powerful as well. Sufficed to say, he was untouchable, and now so was I, after becoming engaged to him. I was furious upon discovering their plans for me and this man I'd never even met.

So now here I was arguing with my new fiancé about our future together which I was sure didn't exist.

"How I could ever love you is beyond my comprehension." I spat vehemently. "I was already involved with someone else before you showed up and ruined everything. Do you recall that, Tivan?"

He sighed. "Calixte."

"No..."

I scoffed.

"This, us, is not going to happen."

Tivan rolled his eyes. "There is no escape, my dear. Your parents and I have a binding contract which cannot and will not be broken."
