Kate sat in the bedroom of her old apartment that she had been meaning to get rid of since she was fired from her DC job. Every time Castle asked about it she always came up with lame excuses as to why she shouldn't. It's not like she even lived there anymore, all her belongings were at Castle's, the only thing she had here was a bed and some miscellaneous furniture that had a thin layer of dust due to how much time she didn't spend there. Her thin fingers grasped the sheets of her old bed as she thought, as she did every year on this date, how much her mother would miss. Her and Castle's wedding, their first baby, so many other important things that normal girls would do with their mother right beside them. She thought back to previous years when she would have to deal with this alone, without Castle and then rest of his family, it never got any easier but at least with Castle she had somebody there for her when she needed them most.

She released her grip on the sheets and slowly slid her back down to the comforter, sinking into the softness of the mattress, only then did she notice the moisture in the corner of her eyes. She crawled under the covers and decided she would just take a short nap and return to Castle's when she woke up in a few hours.

She wasn't sure how long it was later when she woke up to the sounds of her front door opening and large footsteps coming down the hall.

"Kate?" The familiar voice of her fiance was heard from outside her bedroom door as he gently pushed the door open and came around to sit next to Kate's blanket-covered hip.

"How did you know I was here?" She murmured into her pillow as she felt the mattress dip with the weight of him.

He pushed the hair away from her neck and softly stroked the small hairs at the base. "You weren't anywhere else, plus you came here last year." He started off in a small voice and got quieter the more he spoke. After no response from Kate he started running his fingers through her hair and added in a low voice. "I know what day it is, Kate."

Slowly, Kate sat up and wrapped her arms around his neck , breathing softly into the crook of his neck. "Thank you."

Caste slowly pushed her down onto the bed and held her. "Always." He whispered back.
