Drabble for fabu's first-line meme challenge:

After their escape, one of the first things Jack teaches Will is how to find all the Pearl's lines in the dark.

Later that night, limbs still trembling from the run-off of adrenaline and mouth shouting his delight at the sheer gall and glorious freedom they have, Will finds himself in the same darkness with a different Jack, one who, instead of berating him with 'S the boom, not the 'hand o' fate'! and No no, that's starboard, Will! Starboard!, is more interested in making him tremble in another way altogether. And Will welcomes it as a very necessary element to their daring flight. From everything.

No matter how much he has wanted - he mentally flails his hands in an attempt to describe all that he feels - this, it is nevertheless a sobering thought.

Of course, Jack being Jack, Will still finds the laughter, wild and free, bubbling out of him whenever his lips are not otherwise occupied. And he uses it to escape himself for a while.
